  • Where do you store your tow bar tongue?

    Hi,

I've just purchased a 2011 Prado which has a genuine Toyota tow-bar fitted. I always take the tow bar tongue out as I'm not towing all that much and I would like to keep my shinbone in one piece.

I normally wrap it up in an old tea towel to keep the bits from rattling. I just wonder where you would normally store it?

    Cheers

    In my Outback Draws.
Before I got them I wrapped it in a rag and tucked it under the back of the drivers seat.
    Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

Leave mine in, assists in deflecting those that like touch parking.

I always leave mine in for extra protection for the rear incase some muppet fails to stop in time behind me. The only time it does get removed, is when I need to fit the recovery hitch for off roading, and then it sits on the shelf in the garage.

Hi Craig, just checking; i assume you dont have the factory cast steel towbar if you are using a recovery hitch in it... i dont think they will stand up to that punishment

All in the shed unless they are needed for towing. Actually at the moment it is hanging off the TREG on the trailer. As for snatching with the 120 factory bar, I must have done nearly 100 recoveries over the life of the 120 and never had a problem. One week we clocked up 16! Mostly Nissans.

Just to thought to those carrying it inside the car. If you are involved in a accident tow point would become a massive missile that would destroy anything it hits. I highly recommend not carrying it around inside your car, either in the hitch where it is supposed to be or on the bench in the garage.
Just a thought for all, seen to many accidents with people leaving unsecured items within a wagon type vehicle.

Mine is in the little compartment in the boot on the left hand side. It has a strap in there to tie it down. But as I said I've never used it so might take it out and leave the recovery hitch in there instead.
