This is typical truckie talk. Very funny. It's a prank call but makes me laugh every time I hear it.

Last night I finished installing my new UHF and antenna set-up and then did a radio check. One person replied really pleasantly. I wanted to get an idea of my range so I asked what their their location was, at which point some idiot cut in saying " North Korea you C***k head".
I was quite surprised and the only thing I could think of to reply was " thank you, there must be some really good skip tonight then"

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I just don't understand why some people get a kick out of showing themselves up as utter idiots.
That's standard practise on cb radio.
That's why I can't leave it on with kids in the car either.
        They all absolute filth.
Talking to a mate installing his UHF last night, he old me he was going to do a quick radio check & I reminded him to be prepared to be abused. I even warned him his mum could likely be involved, You know what happened to the letter. ( add sister too)

Loosers with no mates & nothing better to do, poor bastards they are.

UHF used to be great when the truckers were all on 27mg ( old school am radios). Generally find here in Melbourne that the great unwashed or unemployed love to get on channel 40 and abuse truck drivers......one out of the city though I find it pretty good.

For years I heard truckies complaining about the idiots on the radio in Townsville and I had to agree with them, as I thought Townsville was bad.
I have been in Brisbane for 3 months now and it is worse here.
At least in Townsville you could get some handy info from amongst the profanity and loads of crap.
              In Brisbane???? just absolute crap.
The radio is now turned off almost all of the time.

                What's the old saying:

"A UHF user has a friend in every city.....except his own...!"

On another note, I did have fun in a caravan park a while ago up near Stockton beach.
A few kids were goofing around with the cb in his dad's car. With a muffled voice I said " international space station calling Houston, over".
The airwaves went silent, so I said it again " international space station calling Houston, over". A few seconds later I saw 2 kids running past our campsite screaming out " mum, we can hear some guy in space...!"
                It was hilarious.

Is the 27mhz band not used any more? Once upon-a-time that was how everyone kept in touch. UHF was for short range and not many had it.

Its been ages since I have had any form of radio comms in a vehicle. Sounds like I better get some learning before I commit to something.

Its a function on many Uhf's that only allows you to hear signals with the same code you are using. There are over 100 codes available, so you are unlikely to get someone using your code on your channel. Others can still hear you though, as far as I can tell. The codes are a low frequency tone which is filtered out by your set. Many sets also stop you transmitting if someone else is transmitting but you can't hear them.

I hope this makes sense. enjoy the peace.

Yeah , I installed a new uhf his week and went for a drive today with the wife and kids up duck creek road. Needless to say it was only switched on for a minute or so. The talk was way worse than a construction site at work. I haven't owned one before but was reading up on the dts settings last night and will be leaving my radio off until I set up this feature as I don't want my 2 parrots learning any new colourful language.

Setting up group scan with just a few channels like 10,18 and anything else you think is PG rated is another option. That's what I do when there's delicate ears in the car. The repeater channels around here are worse than an outback pub after happy hour and nowhere near as much fun so I just leave em out..
