OK, here's the latest mod for all you 150 series owners which just goes to prove, everything old is new again. A mate of mine has recently bought a 150 series, and being the inventive sort recognised an opportunity to bring a modern spin to an old bushy's method of cooking a meal.

On our recent Canning Stock Route trip, he pre cooked all his meals and froze them in foil containers and warmed them up while bouncing along the track. The last pic is from a video I took, I have removed his face to protect the innocent.

Make of it what you will.

LOL. During my dad's national service he always tried to get on exercise with the Tank regiments. The reason? They'd all be on cold rations (no fires allowed) but the tanks had to warm up their engines before moving out, so they'd welded hot plates to the exhausts and would have a fry up every morning.

        I like it!
Plenty of room for a few steak & mushroom pies by the look of it!

When I did my trip across Madigan's Line I took 17 pre cooked meals for the trip and few tins of "case food", you know, in case we broke down in the desert. It turned out to be a great idea, it was stinking hot, water was precious and with a single burner I could put the cryovaced meal in a pot with a bit of water, heat it up, eat the meal and use the hot water to clean the dishes. No cooking dishes to do and super quick and super easy.

We haven't done that for other trips but it certainly has its place.

          Cheers Andrew

Many years ago I spent a few years forklift driving night shift. I winter, whenever I felt like a hot snack or even just before dinner I would place a tin of food on the manifold to warm it up. I soon worked out the precise time to get the perfect temp in the food and worked every time.

            Things we do.

Yes my old man made a perforated steel basket which hung on the manifold of the series 2 Landrover over 30 years ago........being a Fox/Rabbit shooter you would idle around all night shooting rabbits and for a late smoko throw whatever stew/pizza etc in there for an hour or so to warm up..........I remember clearly pulling up at Cloncurry 30 odd years ago at the servo to the smell of hot Pizza wofting from the under the bonnet.

Yeah have to say that on the Canning I had all meals made and frozen for 5 weeks for 2 people. Seems crazy but worked well. The only problem is that anything above the basket line will not stay frozen. Made for a quick dinner every night.

I would love to see the face on the mechanic when he pops the bonnet. ha
