Also AJ did you make up any more of those little plates to move the hook to the left of the exhaust? Wouldn't mind buying one if you did
Made a couple for locals that's all, if you have a drill they are pretty east to make. 4 holes 35mm centres one way and 50mm the other way, in 10 or 12mm plate is all they are.

A question for the Guru's
My preference has been using recovery points and a bridle but have just removed the original bar and fitted a Hayman Reece towbar (Due to the recall and towing a 2.2T van.... Not "allowed after market WDH etc etc etc)
My question is.... How do I now fit recovery points with the new bar fitted/bolted where the recovery points used to be?
David (AKA Grumps)
Trying to get away as much as we can with the 2003 GLX 120 Series Prado towing the Jayco Expanda or 5.3 Stacer Seamaster/Merc 90HP.
The Prado build up is in process
Question #2...... Going from front to back!
Had a set of Roadsafe recovery points fitted originally on the front. Fitted an Ironman bar on the front and had to remove them.
Spoke to Ironman after fitting it and they couldn't help with any ideas for fitting an alternative. Have heard that some people have fitted 150 series points when fitting an ARB bar.
Anyone have any idea if the the 150 recovery points can be fitted with an Ironman bar installed as the mounting is very similar?
Do have a winch so that could be used for a slow retrieve if needed.

My Hayman Reece which is now owned by Gramps has them built in!

I've been involved in this discussion on another forum, but I don't think those hooks (or any hooks) are rated for snatch recovery. They could be used for towing but for snatching I think you need closed loops, not hooks.
Happy to be corrected ...
i see only one thing with the hooks that is the recovery equipment will fall off the hooks very easy as where the closed loops thay cant disconnect from the car

If you look closely at the pic there's a keeper on the hook. The eye of the strap is not coming off the hook in a hurry.

Correct but it is better than using a loop and a shackle as if something fails the hook bends straight and you don't have a flying missile (shackle).

Here is the crux, nothing is really "rated" for a snatch recovery, hooks, loops, anything. Why? There is no standard for recovery points on vehicles, so the whole "rated" concept is just any given persons interpretation of what is good enough.
Hooks or Loops both have pluses and minuses, personally I have the hooks as I was involved in 4wd driver training and the way I have mine set up with the hooks was the only way I could get it to comply with the guidelines in our driver training manual that is produced by the 4wd association of South Australia in conjunction with the national body.
In fact in the manual is actually refers to "Hooks" although no doubt that would also cover Loops.
Cheers Andrew

Dunno if I'd rather a hook bend straight (which I've seen) or a strong loop (10mm plate steel from memory) and 4.7T rated shackle which I wouldn't think COULD fail ...
