Interesting read that
Yes those bars are not to every ones liking but there great for road rage just show the bar and they run scared! and skippy at 120kph they just shake
The comment that 5 post bars have been illegal since 2003 is bullshit as they still hadn't changed the laws in 2007 when I sold my old panno
Don't get me wrong It doesn't mean all are legal, including the one in the picture.
to my knowledge the rules in NSW were and still are,
they need to have a 5 degree lean back
cannot affect the operation of airbags etc
cannot obscure headlights
many cops tried to defect me and they couldn't, mine wasn't much smaller then the one pictured.
Also depends when it was fitted so if was legal when fitted they cannot make you change it.
so I guess in short its mostly late model utes that will be in trouble!
And BlackMoth a car with or without a bulbar can still kill pedestrians, just like comparing the 4wd to 2wds as pedestrian killers.

There seems to be a resurgence of 5 posters up this end of the world - especially 200 series and Tojo utes with Queensland plates mostly but a few are sneaking onto local cars.Dave
Views expressed are mine alone and are not intended to compromise the integrity of my employer nor offend those who may read such views.
Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.

I used to work in the mines ( Moranbah) for years when I lived in Bundaberg and Rockhampton and let me tell you alot of us with SS and XR8 utes had five posters not that big though for the pure reason on the beef road which runs between Dingo and Mackay its a nighmare for roos and emu. With 150km between Dingo and Middlemount and nothing in between with no phone reception it was almost a must. Just my two cents the one in the picture is overkill though.

I won't be installing a bar like that, but nor will I be prejudice against it. If people need extra protection to prevent car failure in the bush, so be it. Of course if there's rules about it's design and angles, the manufacturer should conform to the rules. And if pedestrians don't like being hit by bars, don't walk in front of them.glen_ep - engineered, 4" lift, 33" 255/85R16, lockers, 4.88 ratios www.pradopoint.com.au/showthread.php?17237 www.youtube.com/user/glenep www.fb.com/groups/ToyotaPrado90

the 5 post bars have been an issue with the pedestrian council for quite a few years. in saying that they want all bars banned!
I agree there getting too big and a bar half the size will do the same job
I don't think think the one in the photo is photoshopped. just google BNS utes and you will see, I had a mate with one that was taller, sitting in the drivers seat you would be looking through the bar to see down the road.
Its because of these oversize bars the laws had to change.
