3 tonne towing??????

Hello boys ,
Was looking at a caravan today to. Upgrade from mine , was close to 2.5 ish tonne loaded i asked him what he towed with, me having an 06 1kz ,he towed with an2011 Prado D4d ,he reckons it tows easy , but he commented about overseas Prados having 300 mm front discs and are rated at 3 ton would like to hear your comments ,as i have said before my 1kz is pretty poor on hills , wasn't going to upgrade to an other Prado because ot tow capasity.

Prado only rated to 2.5 t towing, unless you have a 150 series swb which is 3t

You would probably want to upgrade from the 1KZ to tow comfortably at the maximum capacity.

There have been some other threads on the tow rating of the Prado (or the 150 series at least), such as this one: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...owing+capacity

Various suggestions for the reasons Australian models are rated at 2.5 whilst overseas ones are 3.0, including the additional weight of the 2nd fuel tank in the Australian model. That being said, the 2014 Altitude with the 2nd tank removed still only has a 2.5T rating? Probably other reasons like brake size as you indicated. Or just an attempt at pushing people to the bigger brother?

There are plenty of better tow cars than the Prado,

Really depends on what your priorities are, ie. off road, on road, etc, etc

mate I suggest that you forget the caravan load up the car with camping gear and rough it, buy a tent for the kids and a roof top camper, its all about the experience after all, thats what me and the missus does, get away from the creature comforts for awhile. In the end it costs more in fuel and wear and tear on your car, put your extra money towards a longer weekend away, we love it, happy 4wdriving

Been there done that ,70 now only retired 20 months and looking for ----creature comforts now ------ starting all over again with grandkids now ,your turn will come Rick , He He ,just dont want to make a mistake with next tow vehicle.

lol ok alan sorry mate didnt realise you were retired no offence, im just not a big fan of towing caravans at the moment, im sure my time will come the older i get the less stuffin around i want to do but all good for now. The way the country is goin at the moment i probably will never be able to retire.
