    I'm impressed it can tell one driver had no license. It must be looking in his pockets :{

Yes Kim and wont make a damn bit of difference I'm afraid to say it but it really IS all about the revenue mate, we've an ex (demoralized) cop started with us and has admitted it's more about the money than any thing else (as if we didn't know) fact is Mr Barnett's up to his neck in state debt (his own making) and this is a nice little earner for him, coincidence ? I think not ..................

Most likely linked to some form of ANPR - or more scary Facial recognition, or most likely lazy reporting.

On my last trip to the UK I noticed they were using Point to Point/average speed cameras for all traffic, not just trucks. Don't think it will be long before they are here too.

I wouldn't mind if they had sensible speed limits. There's 8km's of road near me that has no houses either side, dual carriageway, divided road... Speed limit = 80km/h. (Used to be 90). There's cops or mobile speed cameras on there weekly. Nothing to do with safety at all.

Also over there they don't post the speed limit over 50mph. It's up to the tourist to work out if he is travelling on a motorway (70mph) or dual carriageway ( 60mph - or is that 50mph) Narrow country roads? Anybody's guess.

Must be a Sunshine Coast thing, there is already a point to point speed camera setup on 16klms of the Bruce Highway just before the Caloundra turnoff.

The hidden mobile cameras won't prevent fatalities, it is just blatant covert way to raise revenue... Only a visible presence can serve as a deterrent.

I have to disagree. Ok it's a revenue raiser but it's coming from people breaking the law. A visible deterrent only makes people slow down then speed up down the track. A covert operation is the only way in the long term to modify people's behaviour. OK it won't stop people there and then from hitting a child at speed but once it get's round the vine/4wd clubs that there are constant cameras in the area, one will be surprised at how one's behaviour modifies?

If you don't break the rules....you have nothing to worry about....

Couldn't agree more, I recall years ago when in SA the police took industrial action so whilst cars where on the road no cameras or radar guns were operating, most people were traveling well above the speed limit that afternoon!

It's the old story, if your not doing the wrong thing you have nothing to worry about.

Sorry this is a load of rubbish.

Behaviour has changed in Victoria because speed traps are covert. That means the revenue dropped. So the tolerance was reduced to +/- 2kph. That can be the width of the speedo needle. It also doesn't take into account a possible and likely error in the mass produced speedo. But thats been sewn up making you, the driver, responsible despite you having no way of verifying the accuracy of the device. Well, you can but it costs a lot of coin.

Also these scenarios don't allow for an honest mistake. We all have times when we're a bit over without realising it or meaning it. But that can attract a pay up notice. Strangely, many people are still alive after such occurrences.

                          But "Speed kills". Apparently.

Sorry, but this is incorrect. ADRs make it illegal for a manufacturer to produce a speedo that says you are going slower than you actually are. That's why many are 4 - 6km/hr out, that is, they tell you that you are doing 110 but in reality you are only doing 106. The only way you can stuff it up is to put bigger tyres on your car.

Also remember we are talking about a beach here, it's not like your rushing for work or desperately trying to get to shops before they close, your driving down the beach for recreational purposes. Sit 10k under te speed limit, put the cruise on to make sure and relax, which after all is why you would be there in he first place isn't it?

                              Cheers Andrew

                                in Australia they hide everything
police hide in the bushes, up side streets, park on the verge, everything that we are not allowed to do

they hide the camera's in bins, guard rails, now they have the stealth one in the front of the cars, and now point to point

in the US they have to advertise the point, display signs 150ft before the trap, both sides of the road at a height drivers can see, large signs at the trap & 150ft after the trap other wise they get done for entrapment!!! they even have to have photo evidence of the set up in case someone contests it

after doing 2000 miles around LA & over to Phoenix & back i only saw 1 accident & was struggling to find a crash shop
( and they have 200 time the cars we have!!)
even travelling on the high ways most cars were 10 miles an hr over the speed limit but everyone was !! i was even getting passed by cop cars & Granny in a Cadillac !!
but when there is traffic THERE IS TRAFFIC ! was caught in jam for 20miles and was 2hrs ( peeing in a bottle came real close !!)

in the city of Phoenix every 2nd set of lights had a speed board showing your speed and if you were over it told you so
35mph on single lane roads, 45mph on double lane roads, 55mph where traffic was flowing with less lights, 65mph on the highways in the city, 85mph on the highways outside the city

and they know how to build their roads
when i landed in LA in 2004 they were doing the form work for an on ramp to a new area, i left 2 weeks later they were painting the lines & putting up the signs, and was open by the time i arrived home ( my mate said it saved him 15min of travelling )

i dont have an issue with having camera's etc, until they are purely seeking revenue without the interest in safety
they are not supposed to get you going down hill where the car can accelerate under it's own weight
just before the change of speed zones

when i was young there were cop cars everywhere, now there are very few ( i can drive for several weeks & not see any then see 4 in 1/2 an hr rushing back for the change of shift

i have never seen any police catching the cars that speeding excessively when i am around, but have had the pleasure of meeting some new guys face to face for 5km/h over at 10.30pm by myself on a down hill run where it changes from 50 to 60

there biggest issue is the revenue they are missing out on with the all the people running out of rego cars, with no licence & no money, they cant fine them as they dont/cant pay, even after catching them up to 10 times they just end up righting off the fine as non chance of collection & no use putting them in jail as they are full
so our fines go up to compensate !!!

sorry just fell off my little stool that made me 10ft tall & bullet proof !!
2008 Dune D4D manual GXL update - with lots of fruit !! + Roma Razorback Off Road Van
