The latest GXL Prado has headlights on all the time - automatic which cannot be overridden. Toyota will not allow this to be deactivated. It is not a legal requirement, just a standard guiding the brightness, dimensions and positioning of LED DRL's. Hopefully this will not become so, federal parliament is aware of issue and so far is resisting any compulsion. If enough complain ( and plenty are not happy ) the setting may be adjustable to have the option of disconnecting this ridiculous feature. It appears Toyota took the cheap option of DRL's by activating standard headlights on GXL rather than installing proper LED DRL's which only activate front lights and do not affect dash board lights. Very disappointed that Toyota treated it this way. Where will all this end when every car is fitted with DRL's - flashing lights on top? About time drivers and pedestrians took some responsibility and were aware of there surroundings! What about motor cycles that have a need for headlights on to make them stand out - is their safety now compromised as , more and more models have headlights operating during the day? Bring back common sense and stop this nanny state mentality. We should be free to choose when to turn head lights on during day light - when it is obvious during bad weather, fog, dust etc.
