Looks schmick, mjr! If I was gonna slap a third battery in the car I'd do something similar. I'm looking at making something that I can use to run the fridge away from the car

What would be the minimum recommended setup for a box to run LED camp lights and maybe charge phones and the iPad? I have a dual battery setup in the car for the fridge already but having something to run the other stuff that doesn't require the car to be too close to the tent would be handy. I do have a 120w solar panel (Bosch cells from Aldi) with the standard (not MPPT type) controller to top an external setup up. I don't want to go as big as a car battery (size wise) if I can help it, just something portable.

I want one for on the bike, you can jump start the car with them as well. Seen a bit of info on these on a US motorbike forum and they rate pretty highly.

This is the set up we have in the utes. A manual circuit breaker and SBi12 delivering power to an Anderson plug on the tray and in the tub. This then plugs into the BCDC which charges the auxiliary battery. 12V outlets and an Anderson plug for the fridge. All fused of course. Red Anderson plug is for solar feed into the BCDC through a changeover relay. Because the input is controlled by the SBi12 the trigger for the BCDC is the incoming voltage when the engine is running and the SBi12 lets current flow to the grey Anderson plug.
Make sense?
The box is screwed into rivnuts in the tub/tray and easily removed. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

I ended up getting a really good deal on an ArkPak AP730. Its not on their website yet, but retailers already have it on the shelves... It's the newest version (successor to the AP620), with slightly improved specs:
- 7A, 7-stage charger (AP620 has a 6A charger)
- 300W Inverter (AP620 has a 150W inverter)
- Supports up to 140Ah batteries (AP620 supports up to 130Ah)
- DC-DC charging capability out of the box (AP620 has this as an optional extra for ~$100)
I figured by the time I got all the parts and put one together, it would cost more than half of what I paid for this ArkPak. I'm running it with an 85Ah Fullriver AGM, and will be getting another one of these batteries as a backup. That, combined with the dual battery setup in the car, and I should be pretty well right for power

I got it from BCF for $449 but that was because they'd messed up with the AP620. I've only had it plugged into the wall for a couple of hours. Giving it a test run tonight to see what it does with my 40L Engel.
What I like most about it is that the 300W inverter is mildly practical. I can charge my Makita batteries off that - although I have enough batteries to keep the nights lit for two weeks I think the DC-DC charging out of the box might be a good little saver if I'm doing long drives and the battery is getting low. I'd run it off the dual battery accessory plugs I've installed.

Ok, post up your review on it. I'm sure other people are in the same boat as me and what to hear a real review on it. The big plus for me is the ability to charge LIFEPO4 batteries. I'm a big fan of LIFEPO4. I use them for my electric bike and are way better than LI Ion batteries. I've searched high and low on the internet and there are no reviews of the ARkpak 730.
What is the dual battery accessory plugs you've installed? Is this just a double Anderson Plug lead?

I've just ordered this:
http://www.australiandirect.com.au/b...le-agm/MSB75BI
plus this:
http://www.australiandirect.com.au/b...arger/BP6000MA
to run this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/52L-Litre...-/261708503161
That's all pretty good value, and for my occasional car-only camping should do the job. (Big Engel in the camper!) Will see once it all arrives...

Hey,
I also use the ABR Sidewinder setup, very reliable, I've run the same AGM Powersonic in it for 4 years with minimal capacity loss.
