  • Tow rating

Can anyone out there give some advise on towing. I am currently looking at a van with a Tare weight of around 1925kg and allowing for say about 475kg of gear ect. Will this be legal to tow with my 150 being a 2012 model.

Yes as long as the towball weight is 250kg or less. So you'll need to balance the payload carefully.

There was a bit of a discussion a while ago here: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ghlight=2500kg

2500kg towing with 250kg towball weight is the rating for the vehicle. Overseas models have a rating of 3000kg, and there is a lot of discussion (and conspiracy theories) in that link as to why the Australian model is rated lower. I think you recognise from your comment about weight of gear that the actual situation is more complicated than just the weight of the van - it does depend on how heavily loaded the car is too!

Apparently, GX and GXL models can be upgraded to 3000kg (see here: http://info.kimberleykruiser.com/pra...-road-caravan/). I'm guessing that also applies to your Altitude because the mechanics should be the same (whereas VX and Kakadu models are different).
