  • Toyota Landcruiser 200 DVD - 4WD Action

Purchashed May issue of 4WD Action yesterday and of course came straight home to watch the DVD.

I was surprised there were 2 DVD's but soon realised the 2nd DVD was basically a "Toyota Landcruiser 200 Extravaganza"

The 4WD Action team often boast of their unbiased reporting and vehicle evaluations but I thought this Lancruiser 200 Special DVD was nothing more than a paid advertisement with paid actors!!

    Anybody else see it?

Gotta agree about 4WD Action / Monthly its just one great big advertising platform now.

Since Pat left as editior it has gone down hill, fast. The old DVD's where a much better watch when they did 2 or 3 a year. However I still buy it and still watch the DVD every month.

I have to agree. They were much better, and more entertaining with the trips, when it was Milo (Roothy) and Otis (Pat) bashing through the tracks.

If Roothy were to leave the mag now that Pat is also out, I think I'd definitely stop watching.

        Cheers,
        AJ

          in reference to the dvd,
i thought it was good from the point of veiw of what new features the 200 series has.
it is good to see how the features work and don't work.
so i agree it's more of a advertisement.
but a good look into the future of what features we are likely to see dribble down into
          other toyota's later.
plus it helped us vote for the 200 series to win, because there was no competion.
can't let a patrol win over a toyota.
i would have liked to see the prado win the previous stage, so that
the prado went up against the 200 series.
can you tell i'm a toyota person

Couldn't agree more! I'd rather buy a properly produced DVD than be given an advertising disc for free. I watch the old high country one all the time and love it.

And being in the printing industry, i noticed it is printed off shore.

And they brag about australian this australian that. I have been meaning to write a letter 2 them about that. Obviously its a price thing but there are plenty of printers in OZ.
I still like it.... but I have bought more bike mags than 4X4 mags lately
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

I have been generaly unhappy with this magazine and the quality of the DVD's for some time now.
So much so that I dont think I will re subscribe!!!

I am sick of reading about Patrols and seeing them on the front cover!!
Its a shame to see what was a great magazine go down hill so fast.

                Ben..
Its all in a days work for a Toyota!!

Ben, I have to agree with you.
Seems to have been sliding away for a while now.
The free dvd's are so badly done the cringe factor is through the roof.

Guess its just me who can't stand Rooth.

I watched those DVD's the other day...

As for the new electronic trickery... could you imagine driving for any length of time in a car clicking and clacking all the time. And it wasn't even just a background noise... it took over most of the audio while they did the decent in the 'Cape' DVD

In the Patrol v 200 DVD it was good to have the other bloke there who didn't seem to 'say all the right things' about the 200 and told it how he saw it.
                    Cheers, Leon

Roothy seems likeable enough to me but the cooking segment could be so much better. This month would you believe it was how to make a hamburger, and a few issues ago it was fried mars bars!! (with the Waeco and Leatherman in every shot!!)

I still like the mag but I reckon their integrity is slipping a bit, that's all. :?

I didn't think this was worth a separate topic so I put it here.

In the latest 4wd action there is a write-up about a Perth4x4 meet-up. Does anyone know where the lake is that they went to? Black Diamond or something from memory. Sorry, I took the mag to work so not sure of the name.
