Actually they only powder coat it at the factory. They send it out to be colour coded. Personally I wouldn't colour code my bar again.

Really? I thought it was all done at the same time. Why send it out when they have the gear to do it themselves.

Not sure about what happens in Vic where they are made but up here in sunny Darwin they arrive with the standard black powder coat and are colour coded locally. Guess the quality depends on who does the work.

Maybe that's why some guys orders take longer than others? Depends on how busy the colour code company in each state is.
I must say I never thought it would be done elsewhere, they never said anything to that effect when I got mine. The colour does look good though so I'm happy.

All bars come powder coated black, then they spray them in each state at their warehouse. I was told 1 week for standard black or 5 weeks to colour code. I did get offered to have it done locally but warranty would be through local painter, ARB will warranty through any store Australia wide.

On my bar and steps (that were both painted by different spray shops on opposite sides of the country), every where I have scratched them (including some good slides underneath the steps), the white "colour coded" paint peels off and the black powder coat remains, this also includes numerous areas where the front plate and wings are bolted on underneath.

For this reason, I will never colour code again and when I peel enough paint off my bar and steps I will be pulling them off, sandblasting and powder coating white as it is a much stronger finish (the "colour code" paint doesn't match anyway, so that's not an issue). If you intend to use your car off road, save the money and don't bother color coding.

When purchasing my bar in Newcastle, I was also fed the BS that they come "color coded" from the factory which I confirmed is definitely not the case when they buggered some stuff up...

Powder coat is tougher and black hides the scratches

A panel beater colour coded mine, He sand blasted it first. I'm happy. I just touch it up if there are any chips.

I have been reading this thread colour coding.
                            paint peeling of
                            powder coating

you order colour coded regardless of brand they will send it to the nearest painter.

colour code based on the code of your car which will be a number.
the actual number can have variations, slight differences in the actual colour.
you would be surprised how many variations there can be for 1 colour code.

                            some back ground here.
my family has been in the smash repair business since the early 60s.
yep dad is over 70 and my brother getting towards 50.
they have been painting cars for a little while.
I have also dabbled in the art. (no good at it)
talking to dad last week I said I was thinking of getting a colour coded bar, they would supply paint and fit.
first comment was it will need to be blasted first otherwise we will not paint it.

it is almost impossible to get paint to stick to powder coat properly.
Clean steel and the correct prep and primers will beat powder coat if a quality paint is used.
a chip in powder coat, moisture gets in and it will look like sh1t, the coating will lift. had this happen on a previous car with bulbar.
anyway I will be getting a black powder coated bar and when it starts to look ordinary.
blast and paint. maybe colour matched.

Yep, painted but not by ARB themselves. Outsource it.
Quality of the paint job really depends on who paints it.
I noticed all the internal welds and flat bars pieces on the inside rusting on mine after 9 months with hardly and beach work or being within cooee of the ocean at the time.
Pop the bonnet, lean over and and check all the internal structur of the bar to those that already have one..
Put down to poor prep work by the painter.
Was replaced under warranty no questions asked so thumbs up.
Have looked over 20 or so bars since of mates and associates and they are all fine, just really depends on who preps and paints it.
Would probably no go colour coded sliders though.
                              Good luck
