TJM Winch issues

I'm after some advise, if anyone has some, I have a 9500Lb TJM winch, fitted (by TJM) approx 18 months ago, hardly used it once for recovery, couple of times to pull out small shrubs (not big trees), I went to use the other day, and it won't run, solenoid clicks on-off, but winch motor won't go, so went back to dealer to be told that I should have run it in & out every 4 weeks?? And that it has rusted up and most likely full of grime due to condensation because I didn't run it as mentioned, and due to this it's not under warranty, and is going to cost me min $250 to remove/clean/refit (inc remove-refit bar)
So when I got home I thought I'd give it a tap with a hammer, I found if I hold the switch on and tap the motor, it works, until I let off the switch, then won't engage unless I tap the motor housing, and even then it's not running well.
Does what I'm being told by TJM sound correct based on what I have mentioned above? And should I have to pay $250 for what I feel should be under warranty.

What is the length of the warranty as 18 months seems longer than normal?

I have always run mine out and in every 3 months or so and done under load. Have my mechanic service it every 18 months or so (regrease etc)

Warranty is 24 months

Running the motor on the winch helps to dry it out, you are supposed to run them regularly. Don't forget it also gets wet when you wash the car, not just in recovery situations or driving off-road. I've noticed some manufacturers are now putting breathers on their motor housings, not sure how much that helps though.

What bar do you have? I have a TJM T13 and the winch (I have a Tigerz11) went on without having to remove the bar. It did involve removing the grille to gain access and the winch had to be slid in sideways but it wasn't that hard.
