Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with SA LED driving lights?
In particular the 185 watt ones.

They look pretty good for the price and an Australian owned company too.
How does the 33,000 lumens compare with the ARB considering ARB intensities would be about 3x the price

Not sure about he technical details of the SA LED's but for the price I would most probably give that try in case I would be in the market for LED driving light http://www.dx.com/p/mz-round-96w-768...amp-red-364065

shadow length at the middle drop off tells me it looks like the ones in the top picture need tilting up a degree or two.

I know what you are saying about the aiming but in that case I would expect the area in front to be more washed out than the ARB lights. Bit hard to really compare unless the setups are identical and the exposure is the same.

Chinese copy has almost twice the lumens and twice the wattage but less than half the intensity. How does that work?

I got my pair of 185 watt Chinese with Cree LED and XP-G2RS chipset (apparently you need to make sure it is this) for a total of $600 for the lot, including wiring and relays etc. ARB wanted $782 each + $77 for the wiring loom = $1641. I saved $1000 so I'll risk them erupting into a nuclear fireball or whatever it is that happens to stuff that is not branded ARB. I've yet to do a long night drive in the scrub, but turning them on down a poorly lit suburban street exceeded my high expectations. Are they better, brighter or whatever than the other 2.5 times more expensive brands, dunno, but they work fine. I've come from Lightforce HID 240's and 170's on the previous cars, which would light up the road for "miles". These light up a long way, not as far as the HID's, but still a long way. They do flood the side of the road more though (which I like), and I've yet to fit the dispersing lens/cover over one. I don't think I'll need a light bar to detect a kamikaze Skippy. Also, I'm not having a shot at the ARB lights, but I'm very glad there's some competition in this space, as I personally would not spend $1600 on a pair of lights, I'd rather go back to HID's instead.

I definitely not be able to make a quality comparison between the ones I linked above and eg. ARB.
But if I compare USD 175 delivered to the odd AUD 700 for the brand names.... are they really 3 times better?

I've said this before: before HID and LED you would dip your hi beam at 500 metres when approaching other traffic at night out in the boonies. Now that every trucker runs massive HID spots, and some with light bars, we're dipping at 2 - 3 kilometres. So the overall effect of this technology means that we now drive further on low beam when approaching other vehicles. That's got to be more risky. Having all the light is great if you're the only car out there or you're doing the rally-cross event with all traffic going the same way.

I agree with you there Bushy, the whole more is better logic when it comes to lights doesn't really do it for me. I "upgraded" my spotties to HID and have regretted it from that day to this, even with my modest boost I find that the reflection from signs is borderline annoying, anything more and I would have to run on low beam most of the time.

Speaking of trucks and lights, most car drivers don't seem to understand when to dip your lights for trucks, the truckie sits a lot higher and you need to dip your lights as soon as you see their clearance lights, not their headlights, if you are running these mega lumen super bright lights and don't dip soon enough, you have a half blinded truck driver hurtling towards you with a closing speed of maybe over 200km/hr, that's gotta be safe as well
