  • Toyota firmware update.

Hi guys, do Toyota dealers charge to bring outdated firmware levels up to date if I ask them to do it at the next service? Do I even need to ask or is firmware checked each service they do?

I had my software updated during a used vehicle warranty for free. Was hesitating when I accelerated after a corner and was fixed up. No issue now.

ECU, and any other firmware updates. I'm not sure what firmware updates are available but I don't think my 09 built 150 has ever been in a toyota dealership so I assume all firmware may be outdated by now.

My dealer didn't really want to do it, as I couldn't identify any real issue. Made one up before the next service, and they did it. Fuel economy seems slightly worse...

I was considering doing it as mine is a 2009 and never had it done. The one thing that has stopped me is it is irreversible, so if you do not like the change you are stuck with it. Worth considering

I work in the photocopier/printer game and all of our products have firmware, there are updates to these all the time. Whenever an issue comes to light such as 'slow printing a certain type of document' or 'Excessive toner usage' as examples the technical support department escalate the issue and they come back with a new firmware version to fix the issue.
Sure the machines still work on old firmware if they aren't updated but there will be issues (some are minor, some not so minor) that are rectified by keeping firmware levels up to date.

So although my car aint broke, I suspect there could be some benefits by updating the firmware.

I believe it stops the flat spot that you may have when accelerating out of a corner etc. I have experienced the flat spot but a bit of throttle gets rid of it. That is the degree of my knowledge, there are other threads on this flat spot problem
