  • Diesel Prado v Petrol

Hi looking at trading in my Diesel Pajero after big problems
with carbon build up in manifold, blocked EGR and still not
    Running right.

I realise the benefits of a diesel, fuel economy, towing capability
but are concerned that will have the same problems as I have just
Had with the Pajero given 80% of its use will be around town.

Would appreciate any help or advice on the Diesel and also
How the v6 petrol stacks up.

    Thanks

Have a quick search around, it has been covered a few times.

In short, if you are doing mostly around town, not towing a huge load constantly, the petrol is a better vehicle. Some love the diesel (myself included), but the cost of maintaining the diesel is going up (injectors, t/belt, etc.), and petrol fuel economy is getting better. Not to mention the price of a second hand petrol is lower for a similar vehicle. The petrol definatly seems more hassle free

Petrol is a good engine. Pretty much bullet proof but like anything it depends how you drive it. Sounds to me though that the petrol would be a better option for you. Do a Google search. "Pradopoint diesel petrol" this topic has been done to death. Generally the petrol lovers will support petrols and diesel lovers the diesel and then there are a few odd people like me. Horses for courses.

Thanks for your advice, I was swaying towards the Petrol. I personally like the idea of a Diesel but the around town driving and the problems with the Pajero have put me off.

For what its worth, i was hesitant about Diesel having Petrol all my life but after picking up my 3.0L T/D a month ago, i couldnt be more happier with economy, engine noise and overall feel.

            Petrol

I had a Prado 150 GXL Petrol (2009 build) and now have Prado 150 VX Diesel (2014 build) so had both.

Around Sydney/mainly city use Prado with its petrol engine is a much better choice.

              Tf,

My previous vehicle was an NT Paj, with all the kit, plus chip & 3" exhaust and now have a V6 150. The Paj had heaps of low and mid grunt, but wasn't anywhere near as civilised with NVH. My camper weighs 1.5t loaded and we averaged 15/100 on our Xmas trip to Sydney, sitting on the sped limit.

I love the performance and how silky smooth the V6 is and will be thinking very hard when it comes time to change.

              Cheers
              Geoff
