  • Advice on spray painting over electroplated steel

I've got someone who wants to spray paint the recovery points a special colour as that appears to be the most cost effective way to go.

The recovery points have been electroplated in gold zinc. The final colour is monster green.

Does it need a base coat/primer?

What type of paint would be suitable that might take a bit of wear from the bow shackles?

A light sand and etch prime.....Possibly powdercoat but matching the colour maybe hit and miss.........I think the shackles will eventually wear through just about any coating when they are under load or are they just for show like most recovery points?

He has ruled out powder coating due to the cost for doing a unique colour and just a pair of recovery points.

Folow up, ended up Etch prime and Dulux Duramax. Spray paint doesnt look as neat or durable as power coating. Will powder coat them when I get a few things done.

D4Dforme I don't plan on getting bogged so you can say they'll be for show...
