Love those infinity hot water set ups. Saw a perfect example of it with the simple unit JPH had at the 2024 gtg, something his dad put together.
I will ditch the coleman, & then fit one of those in if necessary.

Therefore it's ok to use a gas bottle to run the coleman hot water.
I think it's safer to use the screw on propane cylinder & they do last a long time.
According to Bunnings http://www.bunnings.com.au/our-range...es/gas-bottles some "gas bottles" are filled with butane.

To save confusion I think it would be better if you specified what a Gas Bottle is when you make such a definitive statement.

        Thanks,

Why ask me? It was your statement "Gas bottles are filled with propane only".

All I did was point out that according to Bunnings a Gas Bottle may contain Butane.

I wasn't saying you were right or wrong; I merely suggested that you may like to clarify your statement.

            Sorry if it offended you.

              No wuckers!

Not sure what or where Bunnings make statements, plenty gas bottles for sale.
Simple statement, when I say gas bottle that's it.
The first thing you think of if I asked, please bring me a gas bottle, I think everyone would know what I'm talking about.
I could be wrong & some people are even more stupid than first thought ? Lol........

Generally I thought it would be commonly referred to as:

Gas tank: in vehicle filled from servos usually contains propane & butane. Country areas may be propane.

Gas bottle, the thing you use to run your BBQ & similar you know swap n go? That's propane only!

              Gas can, butane can etc.

I hope that clarifies it for anyone

                  Back on topic please.

                  Ok peeps,

Just reminder about what the topic is.

So we have learned there are crv butane cans, great!
Use butane burners with care at your & others own risk.
The same as you drive your vehicle to get to where you may use it.

Thank you to the o.p for starting the thread.
I think it has been educational for many of us.

When it comes to safety it's always worth discussion.

                    Yes it is.
Considering how cheap looking and flimsy the other type of camp cookers are I can see butane cookers coming back on the market pretty quickly just with a slight design change.

I too have been using these burners for years. Never had one leak.
Funny the bloke on the security gate on the Spirit of Tassie saw one of my spare butane cylinder in my morning tea crate in the car, and informed me I had to hand it in for collection at Devonport. Didn't ask me if I had any more in the car or trailer. We did have 2 packs of 4 plus the ones in the burners. He didn't ask so I didn't tell him. Didn't worry about the 2 x 4 kg cylinders on the outside of the camper either, although these are securely held in place.
Used correctly and kept clean these burners should not pose any danger. Used incorrectly or poorly maintained and you have a recipe for disaster.

                      Rusty.
I will be keeping mine for as long as the cartridges are sold.

So did I, but mysteriously all of the stoves had been removed from sale...
I'm hoping that the cans will remain on sale... The Weber is good for cooking meat on, but you cant beat a stove for using a pot or frypan.

There's now apparently a full recall on these stoves:

                                http://www.elgas.com.au/blog/1461-ac...nchbox-cookers

Don't think I'll be giving mine up just yet...its so handy. There are some tips in the link for safe use if you do not wish to return the stove.
