A few of points about that article/blog :-

    1) It's published by Elgas, an LPG supplier with a vested interest in increasing LPG sales over packaged butane cans.

    2) The link to the ACCC site says "It is anticipated that product safety recalls for affected models will be in place over the coming weeks.". That says to me that they aren't yet all recalled.

    3) There's only hotlinks to 3 models on the Elgas page and none at all on the ACCC page but a search reveals the same single recall notice linked from the Elgas site.

I'm not having a go at you for publishing the article/blog, it just might be hard to return one if it hasn't yet been formally recalled. I don't even know if I still have the receipt for mine, it was so cheap I probably threw it out (came from Bunnings).

      Touche!

I couldn't bare to part with mine. Its so damn handy. And it packs away nicely. And its simple. And it efficient. And it was a bargain. And the gas is a bargain. And my fry-pan doesn't fall off like on those little gas stoves with the bottle/can beneath the trivet. And the list goes on...and on...and on...

Yep, i just find them so convenient.

We used 2 while on Fraser over Easter. Every now and then while cooking I checked the temperature of the actual gas canister, and found that it was always cold to touch.

Maybe somebody with more expertise will know the right answer to this, is the fact that gas might be leaking the real problem?

My understanding is that butane is heavier than air, so if using one of this stoves out in the open setup on a table, any gas leaking would gravitate to the ground, is a small leak that you cannot hear or smell potentially dangerous in an open outside enviroment?

If I was using a say a 2 burner stove with a 4kg LPG bottle that I have 2 hose connections to do up every time (twice the connections of the portable stove at least) that I do no more checking for leaks than using the other stove, am I any safer?

Maybe I should by a metho stove, then I can also use the metho to cure worms, and I can read a book while I wait for the kettle to boil.
