  • After market Reversing camera

Has any body recently installed an aftermarket reversing camera. I am considering purchase of the kit where you replace the rear view mirror.
I am trying to make it easier to reverse up to the trailer hitch. Dash mounted systems attract thieves.
There are so many variations on the market and I was wondering if there is a Prado 120 series specific product.

Hey buddy, first off. Is the mirror on the 120 mounted to the windscreen or the roof? If it's the windscreen, you're in luck. Plenty of options, but you need to be careful. Many people go for the units which have lots of different functions like DVR, GPS, bluetooth, radar detector and somewhere in the crap... a reverse camera. Forget them. Unreliable as hell.

Here is the unit I get requested to fit at dealerships, http://www.parkmate.com.au/products/...mirror-monitor

Here is the same style with some extra options built in.

Thanks mate the mirror is mounted on the windscreen so I will take your advice and source the unit you have advised on.

After owning the type with the screen built into the mirror and getting frustrated at not being able to see the screen because of the glare, I finally found this unit.

The separate screen for the reversing camera is much better in use. Highly recommended.

Presumably you need to purchase the rear view camera separately with that unit?

          Cheers Andrew

Yes, just pair it up with any of the other ebay cameras. It also has a 2nd input for another camera.

I already have my dodgy options camera, it would be handy if it would connect to that.

What about the one you linked to Ranj, can any camera be hooked to that? Also do you know rough $$, I can't buy that one locally according to the link but will be somewhere tomorrow that I can.

                Cheers Andrew

Does your camera have a yellow RCA connector? If so then it will be plug n play.

Looking at the parkmate description, it looks like it will vary the brightness of the LCD to counteract the glare issue. The other ebay ones I have used don't have this feature and it was terrible to use.

I don't recall a yellow connector, but it's been a while since I have played with it.

For the park mate unit you can call park mate direct for a stockist or ring directed electronics www.directed.com.Au for one of their stockists. Autobarn stores are stockists but love to push the clip on style.

Try rogerthatv2 in his rig build, if memory serves me correct he played around with a front camera.
