We do have a lot to choose from, especially on the used market. I've limited my search to Toyota though, having owned them for 25+ years and even served a stint as a Toyota master technician. I do like the current (5th-Generation) 4Runner but they are pricey. The 4Runner is a good starting point, but I do like the 120/RX/Prado for its size, V8 engine and cabin. I didn't realize it was a compromise vehicle for so many of you! Over here, we always thought it was well-liked by folks outside of the U.S. A vehicle in the Prado's size and price category, with crawl control and a decent engine would be great (our current model 4Runner has this but it comes with a hefty price tag as well - there is no such thing as a "base" model 4Runner in the States).
