  • Toyota Series numbers - please explain

    Hi guys,

Another question. I am new to the whole toyota thing! One thing I can't work out is all these series numbers. Where are they based on?

    Prado 90,120,150
    Landcruiser 100,200 series

Do you guys find it confusing?

    Would like some clarity, thanks!

    90 series = 1st series available in Aust released 1996 to 2002
    120 series =2nd model 2003- 2009
    150 ssries = 3rd model 2009 to current

It's basically a model designation. Commodores have VB, VC, VH, VK, VL, VP, VR, VS, VT and so on and so forth. Well, with Toyota and Landcruisers, it's number.

Perhaps this website might help a bit.... http://expeditionportal.com/toyota-l...ry-and-models/

Although it doesn't really cover the Prado. So here is a quick rundown...

70 Series That was never released in Australia. I have seen two in total.

      90/95 Series...

      120 Series

      150 Series

With the super hardcore overlanders they have to focus on reliability over absolutely everything. Hence, the less in the car the less to go wrong. We are talking about people who won't see civilization for weeks/months at end.

Hence the prado is still a serious off roader but is filled with a few roo many creature comforts to go wrong.

If i had to stake my life on a car in the outback for a few months... I'd rather manually crank my windows in a 70 series then press a button in a Prado.

Nope. Not a hope in hell I'd try to use a prado as an overlander.

              Or for the insane overlanders....
