Righto, The Darwin stint is coming to an early end, I'm moving to Adelaide for work (contrary to a previous post in another section which stated Canberra - it got changed).

Those that are living in Adelaide, what areas should I look at to live in (ill be renting at this stage)? What are the less desirable that I should avoid? I will be there about mid to late Aug at this stage after leaving darwin in about 4 weeks (I have some other work commitments in between).

Most importantly I am going to need info about were to go 4wding.

    Cheers

Access to Port Adelaide on the Port River Expressway is pretty good. So suburbs like Mawson Lakes will give a quick route to your work and if the better half work at Lyell McEwin, then it is halfway in between.

Otherwise it is a pretty good lifestyle along the beaches all along the western front. You would want to avoid areas like Elizabeth. The inner eastern suburbs (Burnside area) is old and expensive.

As for Hospitals, there's Lyell Mc in the north, Modbury in the north east, RAH in the city and Queen Elizabeth in the west.

Yeah I was thinking west side, Compared to Darwin (and Melbourne before that) rental prices are awesome, More funds for the 4x4

I don't think you'll go too wrong with western side. Coastal is probably overpriced (in SA terms). Inner west has a good mix of old and new places.

I'd try to stay South of the mullett proof fence (Grand Junction Road) and North of Cross Road, but in order to not offend AMTS I'll concede that Mawson Lakes would be an exception to that rule!
            Cheers

Golden Grove area is also pretty good.

Just not near Wingfield as the dump is there and magically catches fire every now and then, sending putrid smoke to the surrounding areas.

Ha Ha Razorback, yes but the question was about where to live in Adelaide.

I'd be even further out, 220kms to be precise but that's much to big a commute for me!
                  Cheers

Anywhere less than 50kms from the CBD is too close if you ask me

                    Cheers Andrew

Cheers guys, I continue to scope whats available in those areas. The other things I am going to need are a yard for the pooch and a shed/DLUG - the bigger the better. I have seen a lot that should fall in my price range with those features, looking forward to getting there!!

The best place to see Adelaide from is the rear view mirror. The smaller it gets the better it looks. LOL

Have a look around Grange, West Lakes and Semaphore if you want to be close to work. If budget allows check out Henley Beach.

Will do! The bonus is that I have a bit time to narrow down what areas to look at, when I get there work also put me in a serviced apartment for about 3 weeks (longer if I need)!!
