Just got a new boat and weighs a fair bit. Over 2T but need to go weigh bridge to check it out. Previous owner had a prado but did small trips. I like to do long trips with the boat.

The prado sags a little at the back and up steep hills it struggles a bit but I am not flooring it as I dont want to push it that hard.

I am thinking the Ford ranger might be better with the bigger motor, power and torque? Maybe better balance on the back too?

Has anyone here gone to a Ford Ranger? Just thinking thinking lightly at the moment. I love my Prado, maybe i just need to adjust the rear suspension a little. Dont want to do a chip though.

      Thanks for any suggestions.
Why is this thread on page 2 and we still havent seen a photo of the boat...?

Now remove the towball weight from that 300kg payload. I couldn't find what the max towball weight is but let's say a conservative 250kg for a 3.5T trailer. That leaves a skinny 50kg driver to operate the vehicle.

The point is, do your calcs before purchasing your new tow vehicle and trailer.
He did, he clearly stated that the downball is part of the 3500 towed, by adding it on you are double counting 350+3500 is 3850, so a 3500 trailer weighs 3150 when 350 is resting on the cars axels. Mainly the rear.

Symo, I don't think that anyone is double counting but as you read on in the article he makes the same point as AMTS. There are not one but two considerations, the total towing weight of the trailer can not exceed 3500 but also you can not exceed the GVM of the tow vehicle and the ball weight has to be counted in the GVM calculation.

                    Here is the new Toy.

2005 Seafarer Victory if anyone knows about them. Has a 225 Etec.

That is on the previous owners car. Same car as mine.

You can see it sag a little, but the car is empty and the boat has no gear either.

Misses work runs about 100 rangers in the fleet, not many probs at all(biggest is wait time for build atm, new model) some are over 200000kms.

I wish I didn't get a prado(no Everest) after driving one of these, the 3L is a lump compared with the 3.2.

Our work fleet began replacing the old Hilux's with Rangers a couple of years ago and we have dozens of the bloody things. They have proven to be a poor choice and are now being replaced with Isuzu's. Problems with transmissions, transfercase suspension and computors amongst other things. They mostly dirt and gravel road.. They may well be a good tug vehicle for cruising but i would rather stick with the Prado for off road even with the possibility I might haveD4D issues down the track

My advise would be to hire a ranger for a few days and put it through its paces towing your boat.
If you like it, buy it.

Thanks for all the info guys, think I will hold off on the ranger as much as I like it. Let's see how the New Hilux pulls up!

National company so everything, service vehicles mainly. She's the fleet manager can't recall any major ranger problems.
