I think your right, I haven't got that many fingers and toes so hard to count that high

Yes that's what I drive, although only with 2 trailers, not the 3 in the picture. Hence my not understanding why people insist on calling Utes and cars trucks.

Because it's an abbreviation of the American term pick up truck.

Correct rags, but due to the stupid laws (in S.A. at least) those 46 wheel units ( B triple ) can only carry 85 tonnes gross where as my 42 wheel unit ( double A road train ) can carry 85.7 tonnes ........ go figure

This is the truck I drive

Sure, what Diesel69 drives is a double road train. That consists of a Prime Mover, a truck with a turntable over the drive axles, and a trailer attached to that turntable. At the back of the trailer he has a coupling which you attach a "Dolly" to, which is a short drawbar attached to a set of axles with a turntable on top, another trailer is attached to the turntable on the dolly giving you Diesels setup pictured below. A triple or Quad road train is just a case of adding another dolly and trailer behind the last.

What I drive is a "B Double" which again has a prime mover, but I hook an "A Trailer" to that which has a shorter body and a turntable mounted directly over the rear axles. I attach my "B Trailer" which is basically the same as a normal semi trailer or Diesels Road train trailers directly to the turn table on the A trailer, so a B double doesn't have a Dolly.

You can also have a "B Triple" which is 2 "A trailers" with a "B Trailer" attached to the second "A Trailer".

And most importantly, all these are Trucks, unlike a Ford Ranger which is a Ute

                      Cheers Andrew

I know nothing about trucks but found what you said fascinating. I love the show Outback Truckers. I always make time for that show.

Always have a little smirk when I see comments from peeps in the USA about 'big rigs'. Then someone from Aus chimes in with something about Road trains and they go quiet. Seems the yanks don't always have the biggest and the best.

Well explained AJ, just one thing to add is that Quad road trains can also be 2 B-doubles joined by a converter dolly .

OK, can't say as I have seen that combo before, but it would certainly be a good way of doing it.
