No, the Prado V6 is fine. In the same conditions a 150 Prado TD will be getting 14-16l/100km. In my experience at cruising speeds around 100kph a loaded roof rack costs costs 2-3 l/100km; 28 psi for dirt costs the same; the bloody 25-30 kph headwinds I drove into for about 4000 km will easily cost 4-5 l/100km if you try to hang onto the 95-100 kph speed. Oops that pushes things out to the 20l/100 when towing my camper and up to 24-25 if the headwind is bad enough. A V8 100 series will be another 20% worse than this. A 100 ser auto with us [also towing] was 30% worse! Long time towing experience with campers and caravans suggests that towing anything at 100 kph will cost you 30% and bigger vans more, whatever you tow with.
Trev is right on the money with his figures. Oh, and towing in 4th gear at 100 kph is about 2800 rpm and gives heaps of go but uses 2_3 l/100km more. It all adds up no matter what you are towing with.
