My Old Man has a 2000 model Dual cab 2.8 TD. It's done 250k and hasn't missed a beat. Had to replace the diff input bearing at about 100k, they reckon it got sand in it, but been fine every since.

It's his work truck, my brothers have been at him to replace it, as hes close to retirement, so he'll have a newer car to travel, but it's so reliable he's not game!!!!

            well

            Well

            i have a 2000 TD Rodeo and a 2004 TD prado so I guess I can make a comparison.....

the Rodeo is a good honest truck and it is reliable, easy to maintain, cheap to run and inexpensive to buy. The Rodeo has gone everywhere i have wanted it to go, even down tracks where others have parked their expensive 4WDs and chosen to walk. My Rodeo towed a big campertrailer around Oz and never missed a beat. Cruise all day at 100km/h towing and return 10l/100km easy. The motor is noisy and the interior basic...but then I don't worry about getting it dirty. Ground clearance has never been a problem.

Never had a problem with the fuel gauge or in fact any part of the vehicle.
I love tootling around in it. It is a worry free, relaxing vehicle. Australia's best selling 4WD.

The prado is comfortabe and quiet but I worry about scratching it and the cost of maintenance. It also is much heavier on fuel. The Prado is luxury in comparison but so is the price. Prados develop a strong following among their owners but be careful...eye injury can occur when driving a prado...as many owners can end up one-eyed! :?

You're a mechanic aren't you Matt? The only thing I know of which is just a silly little one is the gearbox and transfer plugs seal with o-rings and only just need nipping. The housing are made of plasticine and strip like nothing else. Just see them from time to time leaking and stuff all you can do to fix it.
Like previously said, very basic and loud vehicle but because of that they do seem to just keep going.
As for them being Australias best selling 4wd, they may have been but GM recently cut ties with Isuzu. No word if Isuzu will do it alone in Aus.

                    well

I heard that Isuzu will bring them in but that they won't be known as Rodeo...also GM's replacement is not going to be called a Rodeo either. Can't remember what they are now.

Seems like the end of a good relationship. Isuzu has a reputation for a bullet proof motor and transmission.

Traditionally yes but I suspect the diesel Jackaroo would of strained the relationship.

We have a few of these as work utes and they are damn fine. Cop a battering and no problems, very solid and easy on fuel. Good call.
