The problems I have seen with the Waeco are more related to lids buckling, hinge pins breaking that sort of thing.
Cheers Andrew
Which they rekon with the new waeco cfx apparently they rectified because if you push it back too far it automatically comes off to prevent breakage.
I think the arb one is similar too.
I have a Waceo CF60 and CF50, both have been faultless. The 60 is in the back of the Triton and is running 24/7 every day of the year. Depending on your needs I don't think paying huge amounts of cash is warranted. At the end of the day it is a Holden vs Ford type of debate. The only thing I disliked about the Engel is they make a humming sound(maybe just the bro-inlaws 80litre) but drove me nuts when camping. I am a light sleeper.
So in the end, I went down to the 4x4 show & wasnt intending on buying one then and there.
But ended up getting a 47l ARB, remote thermometer, cover & fridge slide for $1495 - so pretty happy with that one!

I have an 8 year old CF60, faultless. Sips the power, and is about run freezer duties to Fraser. I'll run my bros 80L engle with it as a fridge. He paid $2000+ for his and it downs even have an auto thermostat, just a stupid dial you have too keep turning to maintain the right temp.
Or get a 60L Waecp for $1100 with the same accessories and made from the same parts.

Where from?
Couldn't get that price anywhere - best I could manage was $1000 for a CFX50
You can get older model CF's for less, but they aren't as good quality.
Cheapest I could get the CFX50 for was $1400 with all the above bits - and then they are divided on quality from others opinions.
ARB & Engels I couldnt find a bad word about.
Not saying Waecos arent good, but thats why I paid a bit more in the end.
After doing a fair bit of research & looking at fridges, ultimately decided on the ARB 60 ltr fridge for the Prado. Price was $1345 and included the blue canvas cover. Can be run as fridge only or freezer only. Reason for picking this fridge... Plenty of room with double basket and area over compressor that can be used..easy to use controls.... Best feature is the low profile. This allows you to open the fridge without pulling it out. I don't intend getting a slide or drawers so this was important. Sitting on the rubber mat without straps it didn't move at all despite 4 days in Flinders Ranges recently. In the back of the 150, fits perfectly lengthwise behind seat to door leaving one half of the back free for other gear. Keeps temperature perfectly. Have just seen that ARB have a wireless remote temperature gauge which also shows battery volts... Will get one of these sometime. Might not have been the greatest deal price wise but happy with it for the features that were important to me.

OEM nudge bar. dual battery set up with Optima D34, rear power points front and rear Anderson plugs. Lightforce LED combi light bar. Kingsley side steps. Outback Ideas recovery points. Dr Air Pro 150 ltr air compressor. ARB 60 ltr fridge. GME 3550s UHF radio. Hema HX1.
Horses for courses I guess but I quite like having the door opening to the side and not back of the fridge.
Mine sits on drivers side and opens outwards to the window and is out of the way and can be fully opened - I would think that without a slide you couldn't fully open the ARB & Engel's as they'd hit the roof, you would have to keep hold of the lid?
I haven't tested it in a 150 (yet) though...

I have an engel 40l and a waeco 50l.
Both bought about 4 years ago.
Had no problems with either but a mate who bought the waeco at the same time broke the lid which was eventually replaced by waeco free of charge after a bit of haggle.
I think both are good but if I had to choose one it would definitely be the engel.
I expect it to last a lot longer as it has less electronic buttons.
I also feels it cools a little better.
