  • 150k service - glovebox works funny

Just did my 150k service. Went to open the glovebox and it doesnt open like it used to anymore. Bets stuck halfway and feels like something is loose. Can hear something sliding inside. Hard to explain.

Question is, is there any reason why they would remove the glovebox during this service? Because it wasnt like that before i dropped it off.

    Thanks

i don't know if there's any reason why they'd take the glovebox off (change/clean pollen filter maybe) but the piston or black pneumatic thingy fell out of mine just opening it one day soon after I bought it.
if anyone has a diagram of how it goes together I'd appreciate it.

You can see the first pic, this is as far as the glove box opens now.

Second pic, have to push it down.

I know this is strange, but wasn't like that before. Also feels like something is loose inside the opening panel.

The dealers takes the glove box out to change the aircon filter which is located at the back behind a white plastic cover. To do this the glove box lid needs to be removed and this involves the strut shown above, if this is not put back correctly then it won't open properly, it is pretty simple to reattach but if the dealer has broken it then you should take it back.
PS: When travelling outback I get a spare aircon filter, Ryco ones are available from Repco etc, takes the dirt smell out of the aircon.

I believe Turbo Piston has a 120. The 120 does not have the same piston thingy as the 150.
There is a little black plastic thingy attached to a string that is supposed to clip to the side of the glovebox. I think the string is caught up somehow.

Here's a picture of the right hand side of the glovebox where the plastic thingy is attached to a string.

                  Hey guys,

Called up Toyota and they did remove the glove box, so they are going to have a look at it. I took it off last night and put it back in but was all in the dark so couldn't get a proper look.

That's what I love about PradoPoint - things are explained in such basic terms only an idiot wouldn't know what we were talking about.

Now I have to ask, on a 120 does the glovebox open slowly? I seem to remember mine used to, but now it just slams open. I noticed it after a service, but never did anything about ....

Yes it opens slowly. That plastic thingimajig on the right hand side has been left disconnected, or the string is broken.

They managed to break the mounting point off my gas strut in the glovebox last time I had the 150 serviced. I had to take it back in to get that fixed, pretty sure they just glued it back together. There's no string on the 150 version but it's easy to knock the strut of its mounting point when removing the glovebox to change the pollen filter.
