Hi all, My wife and I are thinking of going on a tag along tour, just a 2 day one, it will cost us just over $300 as we are a family of 6, everything is included in the price we only have to pay for fuel. I would like to know if these tours are worth it or not. We have done many road trips but have never really done 4x4 trips and want to do some. I think the other option is to join a club. Tell me what you think, Thanks for your time

Tag along tours, are they OK

Hi pkcal5 and welcome to the forum,
Ive often wondered the same thing, but we've gone about it the other way around and joined a club.
The main reasons being
1) the minimal cost in joining a club and tapping into all the wealth of experience
2) the ready availability of extra people to go on a trip with, even if its not a "club" trip. Years ago i was in a bushwalking club and most of the trips were organised behind the scenes once you got to know a group of likeminded people.
3)the training, theory and practical, that most clubs run
We are about to go on our first trip in a couple of weeks so we will see how it goes.
I can see the benefits of doing a tag-a-long trek, but mostly the cost puts us off2005 TD GXL Auto

Re: Tag along tours, are they OK
$300 would disappear fairy quickly on food and drinks for a family of 6 I would think... sounds like a small price to pay to have someone else sort out all the finer details (depending on if there are permits or anything else required).Originally posted by pkcal5it will cost us just over $300 as we are a family of 6, everything is included in the price we only have to pay for fuel.
Like anything... check out their credentials to make sure they know what they are talking about (re: 4x4 driving instruction) and it sounds like good value... to me anyway
Cheers, Leon

Gott agree with Leachy on this one.Originally posted by leachy_9Peter,
You could always hook up with your local Pradopoint crew for some trips.

Ditto..I wouldn't have been half of these places without other like minded Prado owners. There's no pressure to do anything extreme (even though some do..:lol
and no costs...unless you are a Pajero owner and have to wear it over the uhf all day..

Hey Peter
We too are a family of 6 and I understand the difficulty in making it happen.
We went on one of these two day trips last year and the wife and kids loved it. She was happiest because there was nothing she had to worry about in terms of organisation and things to see.
It does cost, but in my case it bought peace of mind for her, which is not a bad thing for me. Kids had a great time too mixing with the other kids there.
These kinds of trips are probably not for everyone, but they are a good way to ease in and dip a toe in the water...
