  • 120 Genuine Towbar Rattles

hi all , on our 2004 GXL towbar when I hook the boat or trailer on it tends to rattle , driving me crazy , other vehicles we have had either had Allin or Hayman Reese with an adjustable bolt either on a corner or on the side which could be wound in to stop the tongue rattling , the towbar has had 2 " recall " issues done in 2011 , I noticed on a friends 2014 model his towbar is wobbly as well and rattles when a trailer is hooked up , has any body found a solution , thanks john

A bit of tape wrapped around the inner end. Not too thick or you wont be able to get it in. [so as to speak!]

If you read the paperwork that comes with a towbar it states to remove the anti-rattle bolt whenever towing, so every towbar should rattle when towing. The reason is the anti-rattle bolt will create a high stress point and risk damaging the towbar. Agree a bit of tape will help though.

hi all , I have just been to the local Toyota dealer , after I noticed the " IMPORTANT NUMBERS FOR TOWING " numbers inside the drivers door - TOWBAR Part No - PZQ64-60100 and TONGUE Part No - PZQ63-60100 my TONGUE Part No - PZQ63-60160 , it was the wrong tongue , that came with the car when I bought it , second hand , a big lesson learnt , the Toyota guys swapped my Tongue part for a used one they had in stock , very nice of them , and its a tight fit and no more rattles !! thanks again to all that offered help , john
