  • Oil catch can - water proof?

    Hi there
I have bought and installed the oil catch can (Pro Vent 200) from western filters. My question is, is this filter hermetically sealed? Reason I ask, is that I can smell the burned/hot oil smell around the can. Bit worried about this getting immersed in water and then sucking in water into the engine through the can. Should I be worried?

    Thanks

The provent has two relief valves.
The one under the lid is for positive pressure, will open and vent to atmosphere. The second one is on the outlet and is a low pressure valve, when to much suction from the engine it will shut. This valve is the one that rattles on some cars.

If you can smell oil coming from your catch can check the seals and 'o' rings.

      Thanks Rusty for the reply,
Sorry I took so long to check, but I am always out of time (too much bloody work and house work), so have hardly time for anything else :-(.
What do you mean the second one rattles on some cars?
Do they sell new o rings for this can?

      Cheers

the western filters kit that comes with a mounting bracket places the provent pretty much right behind the dash between brake cylinder and airbox.
Mine audibly 'rattles' when travelling at low speed on low rpm's - the low rpm sends bursts of PCV through the provent making the valves 'flutter', hence the rattle.... I think

I see, I had to make my own bracket and it sits in front of the air box (as I have the second battery behind the first).
So I will probably not hear anything :-).

Mine is between the airbox and brake master cylinder on the side. Presently have a zip tie to stop the valve from rattling.
