  • My upgrade from a 150 Prado to a 200 Cruiser

As sad as it was my 5 year old 150 has been traded on a 200 series Cruiser.

Put simply the 150 doesn't have enough tow capacity, nor to be honest grunt to tow a heavy van.

I am towing a 2.5 Tonne Van, but can now have the ATM increased to 3 Tonne, those 500 extra KG (not that I plan on using all of that) will make a huge difference in my caravan experience.

Picked up the 200 yesterday afternoon, and must admit whilst sensational to drive, and will be the best fit for my towing needs I am slightly disappointed at a few things in my GXL Prado that are NOT in the GXL Cruiser, the following are missing.

    Trip Computer
    Rear Park Sensors
Button on steering wheel to answer incoming calls

None are massive biggies but you would think that Toyota would "common rate" the various inclusions across each variant.

The VX (another $10k more and out of my price range as I'm now retired) has leather seats, and the above items (plus a few extras).

Anyway, I'll get over it but its interesting that items considered as basic as these in modern cars are left out.

Not that I'd buy one but my best mate has just bought a Jeep Cherokee Limited, 3.5 Tonne towing capacity, and certainly much higher specced than the cruiser, plus about $15K cheaper, BUT, I do like my off roading and there's no way I'd be seen dead on a serious road in one of them.

I haven't been a huge user of Pradopoint, I was during my set up stage but haven't had the need very much in recent years, so thought I'd pop in to say farewell.......all I have to do now is get the LCool people to answer my registration to start on that forum.

Best wishes all, happy four wheel driving and thanks to anybody who helped me along the way.

          Hi Mark
I have been out of my 120 TD Prado for over 4 years now but I still like to drop in to PP for a quick look at what is going on. I have just sold my 2011 petrol GXL Cruiser and I totally get your point about the lack of creature comforts in the 200 GXL, typical Toyota penny pinching (eg. Plastic steering wheel). However, now that I have owned a 200 there is no way I can see myself going back to a Prado, and I don't tow anything. I have just purchased an update 200 VX TTD and it has all the good stuff to justify the price, hopefully I am collecting it tomorrow.
I will always have a soft spot for our 2006 120 series, the last of the 1KZ's.
All the best with your 200, and LCool is a good forum.

            Hey guys!

Is there a big difference in ride quality, towing (for the better) the you can notice considerably when going from a Prado to a Landy?

I am a bit jealous, my 120 wants to be a 200 series when it grows up

Enjoy you travels Mark and maybe we might bump into each other in another equally out of the way place some day.

              Cheers Andrew

Still the highlight of my time on Pradopoint, running into you (or should I say you waiting for me) on the Canning Stock Route, one of the biggest surprises I've ever had.

You never know mate, whilst I have upgraded I still like those tough tracks.

                  Cheers buddy!!

If it wasn't for the towing I would have stayed in the 150, as you can see from the signature it was well kitted out!!

At $9K less no, went with the run out.

To be honest that was a deal breaker between old and new, was actually looking for maybe a 2-3 year old GXL or VX, perhaps 60-70K on the clock, but they were all up around the $70K mark......I got the 200 for $79...brand new!!

You won't be sorry Mark. Within the next fortnight I will complete a lap of Aus having done almost 30k in the last 7 months towing a 3.5T offroad van and the 200 hasn't missed a beat. But your right about the lower trim level of the 200 even compared to my old 120. The 200 hasn't even got lumber support in the seat. One thing I do miss not having a Prado anymore is not going to the GTG. But I still hang out here, I think it's a better forum than LCOOL.
