    Hey mate

Toyoto mechs buggered up something pretty major on my 150 VX late 2013, and to their credit they spent a lot of time and dollars correcting the f-up.
I absolutely understand the sickening feeling you have but keep your chin up. Understandably you're expecting the worst and in the end hopefully it'll be a small inconvenience in an otherwise long and enjoyable ownership.

Thanks Trev, I sooo hope you are right. It was supposed to be a long ownership too, that's why I finally bought a new car..I will stick to my guns and see what happens, hopefully won't end up in fair trading tribunal

Wait for the email or letter asking you to rate your "Toyota service experience."

So new tyres and all bushings, might be cheaper for them to take this one of meand replace it I think....Hahahhahhaaah as if they will want to do that
Make sure you have a copy of the engine number. Its a shame both the dealers in this area seem to lack in the service section.

a mate of mine works at a mechanic shop (not a dealer) the 3rd year apprentice did a service on a 150 prado d4d the sump plug wasn't tightened up and it drove down the road approx 3 klm and engine didn't sound 100% so they didn't hesitate and put a brand new crate engine in and a week later they drove off with a brand new donk .

they only drove a short distance and the engine was rooted.

thats how f ups should be dealt with.

I think you might have more luck asking for an extended warranty. A claim for $25k for replacement engine when there is little evidence of actual damage sounds like a tough sell. Not a nice feeling for a new car, particularly on such a basic task. The nobs in a Perth dealership spilled oil everywhere in the engine bay and had me worried, but it was just messy, and service otherwise has been good.

You reckon it would cost the dealer that much for a new engine?

Ok so lots if damage is done!
They should be giving you a new vehicle.
You will be lucky if you get a new engine after a fight & much inconvenience.
They will fill it up & tell you all will be ok.
Well it might be for now?, but that's not what you paid for.

They may look like a reputable business, people in white shirts & nice ties at the front, mr T, hello sir, we have you booked for the 10 thousand k service, any other concerns with the Prado? Ahhh no-You say, mr-T it will be ready about 4pm we will give you a call.
Well after the kids play with it, you might get lucky, but you might not. Sorry to you for this headache you don't need, really sorry man.

Most of the things they don't do you will never know about.
Caped price servicing is caped service. Find a good tech & pay the money for the work its needs.

Don't accept it will be ok, the effects of the premature wet may not be evident yet, but later...........

The dealer only pays about 7k for a long motor.
You want long, camshafts could have started melting the alloy head journals.

People please ask yourself what good service is?
Is it them being nice to you?

Yeah I get them from 80 & 100k mainly. Out of warranty.
Lots of people buy new cars & take them back to dealers for 3 years, that's good because I have much more work available than I can or want to do, lol...... Many owners think they have to, some just like to, & I do understand the natural feeling taking the new love back to the brand seems like your doing the best for her.
It's good you shared, You know you may have helped some other owners make a decision.

A mate had his 120 serviced at the local Toyota dealer a few years ago. He then drove to SA and Kangaroo Island. Here the car seized up. Turns out they forgot to put the plug back in the rear diff after changing oil. The plug was found at the dealer's where the apprentice put it. They provided a new diff to the Toyota dealer on KI to fix it.

Well I am going to have to go as hard as I can, which is not in my nature really but I've got no choice if they don't want to replace engine. Does anyone think I need an independent assessor or someone with some clout to provide an argument to justify replacing engine, or as I would prefer the car. I suppose this really means lawyering up and going down the legal river doesn't it?

Sounds like he had a good insurer... so should the dealer in this instance.
Breach of professional duty, negligence etc etc will trigger this dealers motor trade policy.
