  • No insurance from RACQ with OME!?

So I got my OME suspension upgrade today. Absolutely brilliant! Like a new car.
Rang RACQ to let them know about the upgrade. Shocked to hear from woman on the phone that they'll no longer cover my Prado because the lift isn't "even". It's 25mm in front, 40mm in rear. Seems to be the standard for OME.

Has anyone else come across this?

She said she'd have to speak with the the underwriters in the morning and get back to me (it was after regular office hours).

Hopefully they come to the party...

Maybe time to find a new insurance company???

I came across a similar issue when doing my insurance but simply that they wouldn't quote me because i have 'modified' suspension. But without knowing exactly what you got i couldn't give you an exact answer but if OME sold you a 2" lift (which we all know you never get 2" exactly) then they should count that as an even lift. If by the 40mm and 25mm you're talking about are the measurements you took then it begs the question at what point do they consider a lift 'not' even? What happens if you got 40mm in the rear and 38mm front? is that not 'even'?

The prado from new has a rake forward so this sounds crazy. Not many 4wds around that don't have the rear higher.. If it was level, as soon as you tow a camper or caravan , your nose is pointing toward the sky which would be dangerous.
I have the same lift listed with Racq .

Standard the car has rake, now yours has more. Why the difference in lift? I would be chasing ARB for an even lift front and rear. 40mm at the front will create no issues. I am with RACQ and have never had an issue. Take it back to ARB and get the lift fixed v

Good luck with that one . I tried to sort my wonky suspension with them through numerous phone calls, emails to head office and had no help whatsoever. Now I can only vote with my feet and this is why I don't shop there anymore

Interesting Matt. I had ARB on the 120 after the Toughdog struts failed. I tried to match the previous setup in terms of height and ride but the front was too high and stiff and the rear too low. Gave it the usual couple of trips to settle the lift but no change. I took it back and from memory I paid for new rear springs (I chose the rates trying to match the Toughdog springs) and a new alignment but the ARB dealer did all the work and fitted new front springs at no cost to me. On the 150 I went TJM after talking with Hutch and after a week the front was too low. The guys redid the front and realigned again at no cost to me.

Sounds like you had some good service which is great so you will shop there again. Unfortunately I didn't have great service and after spending over 10k in 2yrs with these guys my money will be spent elsewhere which is a shame cause they have some great products. Matter of principle for me.

Agree fully. To be honest the service from TJM out my way is exceptional. But don't tell Darren.

That's all they quote for on the 120.. The queensland manager told me he would not lift the front more than 25mm & recommended the 884s that were installed were fine for steel bar with winch. Say your front has sagged 20mm from new & then it is lifted 25mm , you really are getting a 5mm lift but they take the 25mm as height it was brought in not standard height, therefore they have given you the 25mm as stated

25mm front and 40mm is what ARB quote for with the nitro sport on the 120. Checked this with a couple of different branches before going ahead. Something about keeping the CV angles healthy.
These are the figures I'd quoted RACQ. As it turns out the true measurements are as follows:
Front 795mm (bottom of rim to guard)
                      Rear 810
Gives it the perfect rake and I'm very happy!

As for RACQ... They never got back to me today so I took the opportunity to shop around.

Ended up signing up for 4wd package with Arthur J Gallagher (formerly TCIS).
No problem getting cover as long as road legal and mods listed. Can drive anywhere. Including river crossings and 4wd parks (as long as not trespassing). Insured for agreed value of 29k! With only a $400 excess!
Had a read through PDS. Much better than any others I saw (and read a few today!)

                      Problem solved!

At that height cv angles are great and that is a 45mm lift over 750mm standard. Weird. Rear could go up a touch.

It should all work out. I went softer springs in the rear as it's usually unladen. Planning on putting in some airbag inserts down the track if required when loaded up for long trips.

Airbags are a good thing. Enjoy the lift.

I spoke with RACV to check this out after reading the original post, and this is their response:
RACV advises that as long as your new suspension kit meets VicRoads vehicle registration guidelines we will still cover your vehicle.
                              and the VicRoads guidelines state:

I believe that my OME suspension fulfills this requirement.
