  • Mjrandom,

Absolutely, so it sounds like you would lodge the third party claim with your own insurer every-time and that's absolutely fine!. We can do that no problem.

Regarding the excess, that's great news. I guess every insurer is slightly different, in the same way that we will offer different insurance coverages that no one else offers.

We will continue to grow, develop and hone our processes and feedback is crucial to us. We have already made and will continue to make adjustments based on it.

Our goal is clear, we want to be the insurer of choice for 4X4 enthusiasts and we want to be able to offer market leading coverage However in order to do that we sometimes will need to do things that insurers that have much more scale can afford not to do.

I would say the majority of people would agree. I know I don't have time to follow up with the at fault party to try and get them to admit fault, agree to repairs, chase up payments, etc. I do know my comprehensive insurer deals with third party claims with no financial disadvantage to me - be it by paying an excess or a later increase in my premium.

Having said the above, the explanation provided by Club 4x4 here is as per the PDS issued by Club 4x4 Insurance - so I'm surprised people claim they were not aware their premium may be effected if they make a claim through them as it's there in black and white.

      • For what it is worth I pay for comprehensive insurance so I don't have to deal with third parties or their insurance. I also expect that my insurer works for me to achieve the best possible outcome with the minimum involvement from me.

Whirlpool is full of stories where not at fault drivers are struggling to get addresses or other details in order to waive the excess or deductible. I would be very annoyed if I had to do the leg work. Happy to say that the three times I have been liberaced all I did was hand over the at fault drivers name and number. No suggestion that I had to pay the excess.

        Ditto to the above.
I wouldn't be very impressed having to ring anybody other than my insurer to sort out any sort of accident. And the mere mention of premium increase when I'm not at fault would have me cancelling the policy immediately.
Say what you want, but my insurer has been nothing but stress free with any claim I've ever made, either at fault or not at fault.
Bit of a joke really, thinking it's OK to have people do their own legwork in regards to insurance...

        • Just to clarify everyone - We don't expect you to do the leg work.

We give you the option of doing the legwork if you so choose. If you'd rather not, then as per my original post, we can do it for you!

You'd be surprised how many will increase your premium even after a couple of not at fault accidents. Statistically drivers involved in an accident, whether or not they are directly at fault, are more likely to be involved in another accident later on - so when they feed your data into their algorithims, computer says NO.

Also check your PDS's a lot of insurers have similar to "You may have to pay an excess even when not at fault if you can't provide the other drivers name, and address etc etc.

            • Sorry everyone, I've been busy. (and also overseas with work)

The matter is still on foot so I won't comment on the specifics. When it is finished (pending resolution) I will provide a more detailed update on my experience. Having said that, please don't jump to conclusions about 4x4 Club, as they are dealing with the issue.

              Cheers,

                • Morning Everyone.

I wanted to share with you all a news update. Today we issued a New Supplementary PDS (SPDS) which amongst other slight adjustments, makes some significant changes to our Off-Road Recovery Cover benefit.

Following feedback from, and work-shopping with customers we have relaunched the benefit with much clearer wording and extension of where we will cover you to. The feedback we had received was that the product only covered out to a gazetted track, which was limiting and left a gap between this and the traditional roadside assistance coverages many of us have. There have been pricing and excess adjustments to suit the extension of coverage and this is all detailed in the link to our press release here

We are very pleased that we have again been able to adjust our coverage based on feedback from our customers.

                  Thanks everyone and Happy Touring.

                  Kalen

                  • Its a shame that you have only highlighted the extension and not the limitation Kalen.

                    OLD:
                    Off-road recovery costs
If your vehicle suffers a mechanical failure, becomes stuck or cannot be driven and you require assistance from a third party to transport, tow or recover your vehicle while driving offroad, we will reimburse you the costs incurred to transport, tow or recover the vehicle to the nearest gazetted road.
An excess of $200 will be applied to any payment we make which, under this additional benefit, is limited to one (1) claim per policy period, up to a maximum of $1,500.

                    NEW:
The additional benefit ‘Off-road recovery costs’ is deleted and replaced with:
If your vehicle suffers a mechanical failure or cannot be driven and you require assistance from a third party to transport, tow or recover your vehicle while driving off-road, we will reimburse you the costs you incur to engage a registered, licensed towing or recovery company or an agent that Club 4X4 has authorised to transport, tow or recover the vehicle to the nearest town or sealed road, whichever is closest. Reimbursement will be based on the provision of a tax invoice from the registered, licensed towing or recovery company or authorised agent of Club 4X4.
If your vehicle becomes stuck or bogged but is still driveable, we will only cover you for the cost of recovering your vehicle from being stuck or bogged and moved to a place where it can safely continue to travel under its own power.
An excess of $200 will be applied to any payment we make which, under this additional benefit, is limited to one (1) claim per policy period, up to a maximum of $1,500.

Whilst it's pleasing that you are listening to your customers and actually doing something about it I feel you should not gloss over the limitation above, especially since this has been discussed earlier in this thread and some of your customers might refer back to this thread rather than read your SPDS.

For those playing at home, again I suggest you read your PDS's and SPDS's so you know what you are covered for, that said the media release is also clear that Club will 'honour what is best for you' so that means that if you use a towing agent that is not registered or licenced or approved by Club, then the policy will still respond - until your next renewal anyway...
                    Cheers
                    Micheal.

                    • G'day 120D4D.

Good call-out. The intention was not to gloss over, apologies that it appeared that way. I've tried to take a very honest and open approach in the release, so I didn't want to repeat the entire release in the post. I do agree I should have looked back on this particular thread to observe prior discussion and tailor the message, so I'll take that one on the chin.

You are correct in that the policy as it stood before the amended on the 1st of April, today, is open to interpretation. As were the other components as reported by customers, so this was a great opportunity to look at the entire thing and remove all of the grey.

I guess the question I ask myself is who would you be calling that isn't a registered or licensed towing company, who would travel a number of hours and 100's of kilometres to come and recover you and take you back? Would you be trusting someone that isn't a registered and licensed (and usually as a result, insured for the purpose) towing company to come and retrieve you?

We recently had a claim in WA where the nearest towing company had to drive 150 kilometres to come and retrieve a broken down Pajero. The bill took up the entire automatically included allocation of $1500 (which hasn't changed), but cost the customer nothing. The truck was towed professionally and safely, that's what this clause is about.

Reading the PDS and now SPDS is absolutely critical. There are a couple of other positives we have added in which I haven't mentioned here, because I didn't want to take away from the changes to the recovery. My only advice is that you put our PDS/SPDS alongside your current insurer's so you can truly see what the differences are. This is the only way to truly do it justice.

Thanks for the feedback, always happy to hear it.

                      Kal

                        • Not defending but there's been a ton of other "sellers" who use this forum and are not site sponsors. There's been others who have been and weren't happy so discontinued - it's completely voluntary as far as I know.

As in disappointing they haven't spent $1,200 and become a corporate member? Why is that?

                            • Have been going through the process of getting a quote. Can I make a couple of suggestions?

For the website quote process it would be really good if you could save the quote and go back to it later (i.e. the next day). At present you have to start from scratch if you exit out. Would also help where you want to adjust options and levels of cover or excess.

A quote made over the phone can't be recalled online via the quote number so if your call center is closed the only option is to start from scratch if you want to buy the policy or adjust options to see how it affects the premium.

Also what's the non-refundable $33 policy fee all about?

                              • Just got my renewal from AAMI, premium gone up by $100 & agreed value gone down to 14,000.
Same thing only $100 more through Club - $22,000 agreed value plus all the extras they offer.

                                No brainer really....
