  • Front Sensors & front Windows Tint

    Hi guys

Could you please advise how much to pay for the front parking sensors as my dealer quoted me $850 which sounds bit expensive. Also would like to know what did you guys paid for front window tints.

Also would the front sensors be connected to the display as it shows for rear parking sensors?

By the way I live in Melbourne SE if you could recommend anyone for these jobs that would be great

Front window tints cost me $160 - darkest legal octane at Tint a Car (Sydney)

Be careful only tinting your fronts, in the 120 at least the rear windows are only privacy glass and have no UV protection.
So while they look dark, they give no protection from the sun.

This may have been rectified for the 150, but not sure.

Hey bud. Not sure if I'm breaking the rules or not but I subcontract to Autobarn Bayswater. Feel free to get a quote from us if you like. You'll ask for Ken, Jaslyn or Sarah... probably the first two. They'll help you out with the prices and fitting time. Then request for Ray (that's me!) To do the fitting.

We dont do tint but I know a few blokes that do.

            Hey Ray

If you subcontract to them you can tell me the price what you charge and we can go from there rather than getting autobarn involved. Also do you use original toyota sensors?

I would mate but I'm so tied up with the various shops that I dont have time for private customers anymore. Given that I charge them 90% of their labour charge... you're really only spending a few bucks more by going through them, its also better for your warranty and what not.

No, we dont use Toyota sensors but on the same hand... neither do Toyota! I subcontract to a handful of dealerships including two toyotas and they ask me to supply the sensors. I and Autobarn Bayswater use Parkmate sensors. Very happy with yhe quality of them.

As has been mentioned earlier the 150 privacy glass is only a darker glass and has no UV protection. I had my front windows done darkest legal and a clear UV film on the rest. Made a big difference.

It is a requirement that all automotive glass have UV protection. IR however is a different story.

                    Hi mate

Have a few questions hope you don't mind answering

                    Do you integrate ....

1 - Parkmate front sensors into the Prado150 rear sensor system (the little symbol on the dash)?
2 - Beep noise to work with factory speakers or a separate little speaker?
3 - Is there a separate switch for the front sensors or it's integrate with the VSS wire or Can-bus system?

Reason for all this questions is because i'm still not sure what to use for the front parking sensors system. My old X5 front sensors only work when you start the car up, put the gears in drive and will stop working after a certain speed is reached and i believe the Prado factory equipped sensors would do the same.

                    Thanks

No unfortunately they do not integrate. Keep in mind the toyota dealer fitted sensors dont either. There is a differen e between factory fit and dealer fitted so you may need to confirm that with dealerships. The beeping noise is emitted from yhe additional display. The display I commonly use is about 12mm high and 90mm long with a row of leds extending from the centre to advise you of what side has an object and how close. An additional switch can be added but the way to activate them is by selecring reverse first, then as you move forwards the sensors will activate for about 20 seconds or until there is no longer any objects.

So the ideal situation is when reverse parking... you reverse the bum in and then when you pull forwards to straighten up, the front sensors will activate. The switch can be added to trigger it without reverse. Which would be suitable for pulling into carparks. The vss activated sensors can have a tendency to activate when sitting at traffic lights.

As I mentioned... if the sensors were fitted at the factory then they would work perfectly... but fitted at the dealership then you need to ask those same wuestions.

Thank a lot for clarifying ........ it's great that you pointed out the differences between factory fitted and dealer fit.
