If you check the battery voltage when there is no load on the battery it will show a higher reading. My Fullriver (brand new) will sit on 12.7 volts with no load and when the waeco (CF60) compressor kicks in the voltage drops to approx 12.4 volts and the fridge pulls around 4 amps.

Hi everyone, quick update. (some may have noticed I've been working through this over on another forum also).

I've been able to figure out what's going on, and the service agent has agreed to take it up with Waeco so fingers crossed.

Here is exactly what's happening with it.

At any voltage, the compressor will continue to run, providing it doesn't stop. By juggling with the thermostat, I can trigger it to stop and start on demand. It's actually the start event that's the problem.. The compressor can't start, when the battery voltage is around or below the 12V mark.

Setting the thermostat up above current temp, say to 5 deg, the compressor will then switch off via the thermostat (yellow light solid). Setting the compressor below the current temp, say -5, will then trigger the compressor to start (green light solid). At this point, the compressor never starts (it ticks a few times, then gives up and goes silent), however the fridge is still in the run condition and will remain so until it's reset, even with the battery charged and car running.

So it's actually not so much a problem of it cutting out as such.. What's in fact happening is it runs down to the set temp, turns off on thermostat as it should, but then never starts again (providing the voltage is below or around the 12V level).

When the fridge and battery was new, the fridge was still playing up, however would require a few days of no charge in order to get in to this state, so was very rare, as the Prado is our daily drive. Co-incidentally, I now also have a partially dead aux battery in the car, also in warranty but I have my doubts about recovering that one..

Howdy all. For those playing at home, the agent and Waeco have managed to make the fridge sing and dance (i.e. break) and found the controller in the compressor to be the problem. (I have no more specific feedback than that). Apparently a rare and freak thing.. It's ready for me to go and pick up - hooray!

I must say, the repairer has been very good about the whole thing. The first time around, we both agreed that we couldn't fault it under normal circumstances so it would be difficult to repair at that point. Once I had figured out exactly what was going on, there was no issues taking it straight back there. I'd like to name and fame if I'm allowed??

I'm a little disappointed that I've put up with it for 2.5 years, but what can you do. Onwards and upwards right!

Great news saltbox, your certainly a more patient man then myself. 2 & 1/2 years to solve the issue, glad to hear your happy with the service tech. I've had mine fixed once in the warranty period but over 10 years old now and still ticking I've (obviously mine is not cfx). Can't see an issue with naming the business that fixed it for you. Give them a rap when well deserved I reckon. They just don't like you naming and shaming other business's. That can be done via pm if needed.. Cheers

Ha, patience maybe... More so that whenever it happened in the past, I'd be in a situation where I just needed to get it running again ASAP, like at the shops with a load of chicken or beer. Then it would be another month or so before it'd crash again..

I'm on a roll at the moment with getting little quirks sorted in the Prado. Must just be the two and half year sweet spot.

Repairer was Battery World in Brookvale. They seem like genuinely nice guys, and never once tried to blame something else like my wiring. They also tested and gave me some pointers on trying to resuscitate my suspect D34 for free rather than trying to sell me a new one. As a general rule, I just don't do retail anymore, but sometimes (rarely) you can be pleasantly surprised.

Sorry to resurrect an old post. I have a two and half year old CFX 50. Over the last month I have noticed that the fridge was only running for a few hours before cutting out, leading to warm beers. Now it wont run off a 12v supply at all. I have <6 month old dual battery system, I went back to the shop, they are happy it's all running well and there are no issues with the battery etc. I have also tried running it of the Waeco Cool Power battery pack with no luck. It seems to run fine on the mains though. I have contacted Waeco so hopefully I can get it repaired under warranty.

Should have a 5 year warranty so shouldn't be any issues there. They can be sensitive to voltage. Have you tried it with engine running ?? This will tell you wether it's a low voltage issue. Mine would cut out in my old Prado unless the engine was running. It's fine in my 120.. Cheers

I have just been playing around with it some more. 90% certain now it's the cable. It did briefly run with the engine running but then stopped, play around with the lead and it fired up again. I'll get a new cable tomorrow and see how that goes.

Lol some thing so simple didn't even think of the cable being faulty. Hope that's all it is.

Not rare. I've fixed two with failed compressor control boards. Works fine on 240 but 12v constantly failing. You can see if its the board by measuring the current draw while trying to run on 12v. If the current continues to increase while running its a good chance the boards had it.

interesting - I was following this on 'another' forum and was told my controller was stuffed - it now seems this may be the case if the conditions are the same i.e. battery drops below 12 volts - as it happens our cfx50 is now three years old but our new cfx25 did the same thing last summer. I put it down to the cars reaching over 50 degrees inside when the windows were closed (yeah I know - expecting a bit much...) as the problem seemed to be so sporadic - battery voltage I was not able to confirm as we have solar on the roof racks which meant the battery looked ok and a brief power disconnection seemed to fix the issue. looks like a trip to brookvale is in order...?

Seems to be more issues with the cfx range then the older models ??
