Matt
so i personally wouldn't get the deflector as i wouldn't be doing a lot of dirt work for 100's of kays, .
This happened to me 300 metres from a bitumen road towing my camper trailer out from Carawine Gorge (without a stone deflector).

        Hi all,

This seemed the right thread to resurrect to post this question. I'm still on the lookout for a quick and simple tent. The one we have currently is a K-Mart dome tent which is ok but requires a fair amount of stuffing around with tent pegs and guy ropes which isn't much fun at the end of a long day, and especially in the dark!

Saw the 30 second Oztent in ARB last week

They look ok. Bit pricey though. Seems they work mainly by having an internal frame that just extends into position once you've laid them out. The frame includes a section that goes around the bottom meaning it's not strictly necessary for pegs unless there's a bit of a wind up. Seems they don't fold up very compact either which I suppose is the trade off for being easy to set up.

Has anyone used one of these before? What were your thoughts?

          I'd get a stone deflector.

I don't tow a trailer off road with my prado but do with a work car. When I'm towing off road I stick a cut up corflute sign on the back window with gaffa tape because we have had smashed back windows in the past.

We have also done the full circle firstly with tents and very young kids, then progressed to a caravan after getting stuck in Wilpena Pound for four days flooded in and very wet in the tent. Then we moved to Darwin and lived in the van for 6 months and vowed "never again", we then moved to dome tents and in October last year bought our pride and joy an All Terrain Camper (well we thought it was going to be our pride and joy). In 10 months we have used it three times and got wet every time and I am not going to go into the problems we are experiencing until I see if All Terrain are going to come to the party.

What I should have done and you guys are going about it the right way is to hire and try before you decide to buy and this makes a lot of sense. Overall I have been very disappointed with our CT to the point of every time we think about going away for a weekend, I think bloody hell not again. Ours is about to go back to Sydney forthe third time for repairs and I shall keep you posted.

Matt, the offer still stands for you to tow it and see how it goes and I will make sure it is fully loaded up with full tanks and fuel cans etc.
