I have had a Gerry with 20 litres of diesel on my camper since September.

I was think of putting this in my Prado. Is there are "USE BY DATE" for fuel?

    What risks?

Algae growth would be the biggest concern, then diesel bug. Shake it up and splash a little out into a clear container, if it all looks good I would say go for it. It's not really that long for diesel

As a precaution I would also recommend filling the tank with fresh diesel at the same time.

Have a look on google I can't remember the name but theres some stuff that kills/cleans old fuel haven't used it myself but have heard good reports of it.
But compare $30 worth of fuel to $1500 min for fuel system repair if it is shit.

Think I might donate it to the RFS. Safest bet.

In a jerry can the diesel is sealed against outside air so it will be fine. Your fuel tank is vented as are the underground tanks at the servo - different story.

That is the safest bet, but odds are it will be fine

We used to store diesel in jerries for 12 months at a time out in the central lands with never any problems. I used to keep several cans on hand at home and cycle them every 4 to 6 months when I lived in the bush.

2 by 20 litres have a new home with the Rivers RFS (ACT). I have only filled up from a Gerry twice and that was on a trip through the NT when I needed to get to a big town with cheaper diesel - one was Katherine - the other Mount Isa. Have decided with the range of the 120 Prado even pulling a camper that I will carry water rather than fuel. This is what I need most as the camper only holds 60 litres.
