  • My new Prado

    Hi all

After many years of Hilux's I have changed and brought a brand new Land cruiser Prado GLX D4D Friday night last week.

O what a feeling , I could not believe the comfort. So I picked it up Friday night and went out 4x4ing Saturday, done 500kms by the time we got home that night. the 6 speed auto is amazing and the gearing in low box is so good as is the centre diff lock, even got to use the down hill assist, now that is magic.
The engine is so quite and the brakes are fantastic, now I am compeering this a lot against the Hilux 2013, the Prado felt a lot more at home out on the tracks.
I do tow a jayco camper and the Hilux was great so just got to see how the Prado handles this, as long as it don't drop its arse when it hooked up.
Getting a redarc BCDC dual battery system and tow pro and tow bar fitted in the next few weeks as they had no work shop gapes to fit in the work:twisted:. Over all I am a happy customer with the Prado so far.
    Cheers Steve.

Congrats on the purchase but I think you'll find it's a GXL, GLX is Pajero speak LOL.

Have a 2013 SR5 lux and 2015 150 GXL in the garage currently. Well, on the driveway at least as the Prado doesn't fit anymore. Agree with you regarding the ride and capabilities although I do like the firm ride in the hilux for some reason. Even with the upgrade in the Prado, the Lux is still a harder ride with a bit of weight in the back. The biggest contrast I found though was loading up for camping. Going from the Hilux where everything was pretty much chucked in the tray and tied down, to the Prado, I has to summon every once of my Tetris skills to make the change. The first pack was a bugger.

          Enjoy!

Hi, yes I agree with you on all counts, I had a 2 inch lift with firm setup and it cornered like it was on rails, and yes the tub was great for throwing the gear in I will miss that side of the lux. I wont miss the small fuel tank compared to the 150 litre on the Prado tho. Cheers Steve.

Good on ya mate, you won't be disappointed with that purchased. I also tow a Jayco Expanda Outback with mine and it pulls it beautifully and great on fuel. I did upgrade the suspension though, 2inch lift TJM XGS Gold upgrade and it sits level with the van on and still rides very comfortable without the van. Enjoy Cheers

So I heard that the Prado GXL has heated mirrors? are they on all the time?. Well I was not shown every thing when I brought it (6 speed auto) as when I was driving home today I put it in manual mode Sports and it will change gears it self. Would that be like turning of the eco mode? Still learning lol, cheers Steve.

They heat up when the front demister is activated.

You mean REAR demister, and it's on a timer, turns off after 20mins or so.

The owners manual confirms that the GXL mirrors will heat in tandem with the rear window (i.e. they switches on and off in the same way and at the same time via the single switch and timer)... as mentioned by Drift.

OK thanks guys, now for the auto when it's in sports mode Manuel why does it still change gear . It comes up as forth when you click it over, and if you leave it it will change. Will be towing the jayco this weekend and don't want it in sixth gear and changing up and down all the time. This is my first auto 4x4 and I thought that putting it in Manuel mentioned it would be just that. Or is it if you change it will stay in that gear. Thanks for your help. Steve.

It won't go above that gear, so out it in 4th it won't use 5th or 6th. It's actually a good thing it changes down, but not necessarily up.
