  • New Lawn Mower

Over the weekend my lawn mower started making all sorts of interesting noises, and well the catcher is just about dead...so I'm starting to research new lawn mowers, and this community is who I'm going to trust to give me some advice...

    This is what I want:

This is what I can afford:

Does anyone have some ideas for a decent "known brand" lawn mower for about the $300 mark?
Im after a 4 stroke, with a catcher and the rest is all pretty much optional.

I have a few of the Honda models.. Fantastic.. Just started one in 2 pulls! that had sat at one of my holiday properties without starting since Early 2012..

I've tried a few cheaper models and they all ended up crapping out.. There is a reason most commercial lawn mowing guys run the Honda.. Its worth every cent you pay.

I just bought one of these second hand. Its just over a year old. Starts first pull and mows well.

Thats if you can stretch another $100.

I think this is the one my olds just bought. I used it, and liked it, though I think the cutting deck only comes out to the wheels on one side..?

Go to Bunnings, swap the price tags.

I have a mate that regularly does this at Coles with (of all things!) Truss tomatoes and normal tomatoes. Takes the truss tomatoes of the vine and swipes them as the el cheapo ones. They're double the price, but I mean, really?!

Re the mower question, I bought a 4 stroke Talon from Bunnings 8 years ago - pretty cheap. I've given it the bare minimum in maintenance ever since (oil, blades and spark plug). Still starts first pull and cuts like a charm. Great value for money IMO.

Hey Mate I have Honda mowing gear and would not recommend anything else, it starts first time all the time. I think you'd be better off going to your local mower repair guy and sometimes they sell second hand one or traded in Hondas. You won't be disappointed it will be the last mower you buy. Cheers

That is technically theft. One of the downfalls of self serve checkouts.

I haven't had a mower in years as the neighbour does my small strip of grass out the front. When I did it was an old Rover mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine. It had a dodgy carby so I used to take the air hose off and jam a screwdriver in the carby to keep it open for starting, other than that it was fine. I think my brother is still using it down at his holiday house some 15 years later LOL.

I have found, without doubt the best mower in the world.

It's called " Trav, mow the grass" and it gets mowed.

                          Rusty.

Mum and dad had a rover from about 20 years ago. It was their second mower for mowing the nature strip over the road (in front of a paddock). Its only been retired because I gave them a side chute one.

This thing had a remote air filter... Or snorkel... Which you had to take out the filter for it to run. There was no throttle cable, you use your foot to start. I think it took 3 or 4 pulls to start.
