Need something that has settings that can change from full brightness down to a duller light where u aren't burning your fellow campers eyes out. Having the Red light to keep the bugs away is a bonus too.
having the ability to change from spot to flood beam would be good to....
    may be something like that?

I have used them several times (not the particular headlamp but others), DX was reliable and the product reviews were always spot on.

Looks like SuperCheapAuto has a special on for this weekend only, so for $20, I bought one of these:

      Specs:
      • Light Output: 240 Lumens
      • 120m beam distance
      • Modes: High > Mid > Low > Slow Flashing > OFF
      • Run Times: Main-LED - 8h (High), 20h (Mid), 160h (Low)

Worth giving it ago for $20

I'm happy with a Black Diamond storm. Light weight on the head, 4XAAA batteries, 160 lumen plus multiple settings and a couple of small white LEDs for very low setting and a couple of red LEDs for night when you don't want to fry other campers retinas. This is not a full testosterone torch that would light up a small nation but great for camping hiking car repair etc.

My old LED Headlamp has failed and I'm in the market for a new one.... Wanting one that puts out a excellent light but also has settings that dull the light output. Also having the option for a RED LED to keep the bugs away would also be good....

What are some of the good ones to look at getting and where can u buy them?

          cheers...

I recently bought a flashlight with dual beam mode PETZL ACTIK CORE LED HEADLAMP.
Many different mode available and red beam also available, I take reviews from Best Flashlight Reviews before taking this headlamp.

I've been through a ton of headlamps and nothing comes close to the Fenix HM65RT that I recently got. I've had multiple Black Diamonds, Petz, EverReady etc. First off, very comfortable with a great adjustable strap. Multiple power settings, wide beam and spot, turns night into day if you want. I use it a lot when working on stuff and never go past the mid power setting. Unfortunately, no red light. It's rechargeable or you can swap batteries. Sounds a bit like an ad, but it really is that good. I got it for around $100.
