  • Kakadu corner sensors and ECB Roo Bars

I just had an ECB roo bar installed on my new 2016 Kakadu and asked the guys at Auto Extra, Perth, many times to confirm that the roo bar was designed to fit all of the Kakadu sensors. Each time I asked they said, "yes" all sensors would work. Even on the morning of the installation I asked again and they said yes. Not once was there any discussion that the "corner" sensors would not be installed. So I get home and drive on into my garage only to find that the front corner sensors do not work and on inspection, discover that they have not even been installed. The front corner sensors are a very important piece of equipment as they show you how close you are to objects when squeezing close to walls etc when 4 wheel driving. Has anyone else had this experience and can these sensors be reinstalled? I am fronting up to Auto Extra tomorrow to reclaim these sensors which are my property and have so far emailed them and both ECB asking them how this could possibly have happened. Stay tuned for their response. I bought an ECB roo bar because the consensus was they were the best in Australia but I am now regretting my decision as the loss of these corner sensors without any warning of this is devastating especially for a roo bar that cost me $2,800. I have also lost the use of the front camera. So be warned if buying a Kakadu designed ECB roo bar which you pay a lot more for than the stardard bar. I should have gone back to ARB who would not have lied to me in this way. I am going to see if Auto Extra will take the roo bar off and refund me my money so that I can get one from ARB who do install the corner sensors properly, according to the pictures on their web site. I notice also that Toyota pictures show the sensors installed for their roo bars. I am going to call both of these places tomorrow to see if they can reinstall the sensors for me and guess what I will be saying about Auto Extra and ECB!

    Not happy.

    Hi David

On my VX, I have all sensors installed and working on my ARB deluxe bar without any issues. So there should be no reason why the corner sensors on your Roo bar are not installed and working as they should be.

You might want to check your invoice or receipt to see if the Roo bar includes fitment of all sensors and front camera for your Kakadu and even check to see if the Roo bar is advertised to include such features for the Kakadu.

The Toyota pictures you mention with the Roo bar installed with sensors can be misleading if there is no mention of the corner sensors not working.

Keen to know how Auto Extra deals with this.

    Goodluck!

There are no holes in the ECB bar for the corner sensors?

Doesn't the ECB bull bar have the same 4 sensors as the original bumper or do you mean they didn't reinstall two of your sensors and kept two or threw them away ?

Well I would have to confirm that once Auto Extra found out about this error, they went out of their way to completely fix the problem which was not their fault in the first place. David and the boys were exceptional in how they found a solution to the obviously incorrect sensor holes pre-drilled by ECB. After being extremely disappointed on Monday, I would now like to publicly commend the outstanding way in which they diagnosed a solution and expertly fixed every issue that I had so that all sensors and cameras are now working fantastically. As a very fastidious consumer, I would not hesitate to recommend Auto Extra for all your 4x4 accessories and particularly the ERB Roo Bar which has all of my friends drooling. It looks fantastic and is the best looking and strongest Roo bar I have ever seen. Well done guys and I look forward to continuing my business with you for all my 4x4 needs in the future. Regards David.

NO for the Kakadu, the ECB bar had the sensors in the middle rather than with 2 on the corners for the park assist and side sensor which is very useful for 4 wheeling up close to banks and trees. Yes the original Toyota bar and the ARB bar does have the sensors in the correct location but after looking at all of them, they are not nearly as good as the ECB bar which is fantastic. Be careful also that the front camera is obscured and need to be shifted otherwise you get no front camera multi media view. Note that the VX is different from the Kakadu and does not have the multi media camera system or Multi Terrain system which uses all the cameras to give you a 360 degree view of the surroundings. Cheers David

Just to clarify that a bit more. The ECB roo bar did have 4 sensor holes drilled but all in the front which did not match the corner sensor holes on the original Kakadu bumper. So even though it was supposedly designed for the Kakadu it obviously is not current for the 2016 Kakadu model like mine, which is fabulous on and off road vehicle.

Re previous posts, if you look closely at the photos of the bar above, you can see where they have repositioned the front camera on the bar which was really clever and neat. Also you can see where they have moved the misplaced front left and right sensors (the misplacement of these removed the corner sensing capabilities), filled the holes with a neat rubber grommet and then shifted the misplaced sensors to the corners where they should have been in the first place. I will have to go offroad and use the front camera in conjunction with low range and the multi-media system to see if I get the same camera view as before the roo bar was fitted but here's hoping.
