  • Headlights during the day on country roads. On or off?

Because I think that everybody else should think the way I do, but don't, I get a touch of Redneck when certain things happen.

I'm interested to know why drivers would choose not to have their headlights on during the day on country roads (gravel & bitumen).

I always have them on, hoping that the road train contemplating overtaking the Apollo van all heading in the opposite direction will see me with enough time to make a good decision.

Please don't advise me to have a look through the forum. Done that.

    Thanks

well, if you buy a new prado GX or GXL you won't have to even think about this, cause they are always on.

Might be worth checking that, I think that using high beam any time there is approaching traffic might cause a policeman to want to talk to you, especially if he was the one you shone them at.

Low beam is fine and dandy and definitely something I used to do when I had my bike, (too many years ago)

Agree, it makes it so much easier to see a car coming the other way and while it might only make a difference occasionally it's definitely worth doing.

While it makes it easier to see the car coming the other way, I always have my headlights on so the cretins (always assume the oncoming car is going to do something stupid) coming the other way can see me. I do it to keep myself alive

Always run with low beam on during the day.
On hot days, With heat haze, it's very easy for a car to blend into the road, especially silver cars-
And head lights make it easier to see the car.

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

Always on, even in the big city.

"Won't my bulbs burn out faster?" Common theory used for not doing so. 5 years, one headlight bulb. Turn 'em on and be seen.

Headlights on low beam, lightbar off
The only problem I have when the lights are on during the day is reading the radio as it dims based on the headlights.

Lights on. Its only got to save my life once to be worth it.

Now I have the day time driving lights with the new 2.8, hope they are as visible as headlights....

On some roads councils or state government have signs which say use lights during the day.

We ALWAYS drive with lights on low beam during the day wherever we are . The visibility impact is huge. Just look around for cars with lights on to prove it . Be lit up. be safer,

Mostly have them on when I remember. In the same vein I purchase white cars, reflects ALL the visible light wavelengths and dirt don't show too bad either. I'm sure black car owners have their good reasons, but really guys, hard to see coz it absorbs all the light and heat.

On gravel roads having your lights on is an absolute Must, they cut through the dust so much better and other drivers can see you much earlier.

I have a 150 now so they are always on anyway but in my previous cars I used to turn them on in anything less than perfect visibility.

I have always chosen light coloured cars as well for the same reason
