  • Service Tool????

So I had my 120 GXL serviced yesterday by a mobile mechanic that comes highly recommended in the Brisbane area.
Prado had been previously serviced by a Toyota dealer and last service was the 120K including valve checks 6 months ago.

New mechanic notices something wedged in the lower front left of the engine near the bash plate/sump (pretty well hidden) and we pull out a hammer as per the pic.

Can only assume it was left there during the 120K service by the dealer as it certainly isn't one of my tools and as the mechanic said lucky it didn't go near the belts. Was wedged in good so did not make any noise during driving.

Makes me wonder what tool accountability checks are in place with dealerships at the end of each service.

Really impressed with the new mechanic who will be doing all future work in the Prado with his attention to detail and knowledge.

Makes me wonder what he was using a FBH for if he was only doing a normal service?

Probably left behind after they had to make a fine adjustment to keep the Prado rolling.

Slightly off topic. But my mate bought a hilux from the auctions once really cheap because no one wanted it. Every time you would start it up there was a rattle coming in from the engine.

Was some sort of tool left in the engine bay that was hard to see! Bargain!

Just got an idea for the auctions...

A work Commodore I used many years a go, was serviced then I took it the next day for a drive to a country work location. Opened the bonnet the next morning after the big drive to check the oil and water, and there was a large piece of greasy rag, hanging down from the hoses and pipes, swinging near the fan belt. Might have caused a problem getting tangled up in the fan belt.

Slightly OT story. I am sure this is only a baseless rumour. Big gov dept used to auction off Land Rovers including some that went really cheap because they would not turn over, never mind start. Some were even bought by staff who fixed them by removing the cylinder head and binning the little block of wood which had been put there just prior to the auction.

Don't be surprised what people will do to save a dollar or 3.

I had my SS holden serviced and the idiots left a 12 inch phillips head under the bonnet, and parts left out from under the dash. Never again. Got a brand spanking screw driver out of it though!!

Was doing my timing belt today and removed the top large plastic shroud over the radiator and noticed a pack of chewies sitting in between the radiator and the intercooler. Was pack of PKs but wasn't game to try if they where still OK
