  • When has your bull bar saved you?

Feel free to add your own experiences to the thread.

Today I was out getting lunch and when I left I reversed out of my car park (parallel parking) I had a bus behind me so I had to do a 3 point turn to get enough room to get out, so as I was stopped and changing from reverse to drive I noticed the car parked next to me start reversing towards me. The driver had seen me leaving as he was getting into his car as I reversed out, but he must have thought I was gone as he continued to revers back toward me. I was on the horn for a good 3 seconds before he hit me and I was surprised he never heard it. He admitted his music was up load and also said he's half deaf.
Anyway he hit the ARB Bull Bar and caved in his tailgate and rear bumper. My bar only had some of his paint on it and that scratched off with my fingernail.
So I guess it saved me the hassle of going through insurance (His) to get my car fixed.
He also claimed he didn't have his license on him or even any ID so I just wrote down what he told me was his info not really caring as my car is fine. But if it was damaged who knows what battle I could have had getting it fixed.

When my wife "just touched" the corolla in front of her at the lights. No, wait... that didn't save me anything.
Cost me a whole lot of excess.

Everytime I walk out to the car with a coffee (or a stubbie). I'm saved with somewhere to put my beverage while I fish out the car keys in my pocket.

Hit a large male roo at 110kmh 2 hours into a 8 day trip. Did $5900 damage but was able to continue on the trip. Without a bar the car would have been written off

Playing on Stockton - went a little bit too fast (nooo, not that fast - stop laughing) over a flat stretch which had a nice drop in the middle of nowhere - should I have had the OEM bumper, I would probably have ripped it off. The approach angle on the bullbar smoothed out the landing.
Learned my lesson - the little flat spots can be just as dangerous as the dunes.
No damage - just lessons learned.

Mine saved my wife yesterday. She was traveling around a round about when a young guy in a car decided that he would change lanes. Crushed his rear door and quarter panel. His defense was that he didn't see her. Totally missed seeing a big 4wd. Only damage to the prado was a scratch on the bull bar. Spoke to the insurance company and they have stated that he was at fault so they will repair with no cost to us.

I'm wondering what would they repair your car if there was just a scratch on the bullbar

If I don't have the bull bar painted now under this claim any further damage in another accident they can deduct any prior damage from that claim. I was not going to worry about repairing it but because the other party tried to claim my wife was at fault he can now pay for the repairs. I reckon I could fix it for $20 but I hate to think what the insurance company will charge him.
