  • Recommend a kettle for a quick cuppa

Just looking for a mate who wants a solution to a hot cup of coffee when he goes fishing. The keywords here being "a quick cuppa". i.e. a kettle big enough for 1 cup and hot water in say under 10mins.

I have suggested the portable butane cookers to him but they may not work well under windy conditions. A "nice to have" requirement would be that the kettle would work reasonably well in windy conditions.

Although a budget hasn't been specified, he does not belong in the "money is no object" category.

He has a portable battery pack and his vehicle may not be closeby every time but he normally fishes off the jetty so the vehicle won't be far away.

    Thank you in advance

Has he looked at a JetBoil? They are very quick, and compact. You can also get a plunger kit for them.

      Cheers, Matt

I have a thermos, given to us by a relative overseas who has an electrical shop. It has Panasonic emblazoned on it. It is by far the best thermos we have ever used. The water is still hot from morning way into the night. I have been looking and haven't been able to source a similar one here.

Jetboil was the thing I was thinking about but couldn't put the name to it. I think that's the one to go for. Where's the best place to get them for a good price?

ebay or Snowy's Generally cheaper on ebay, but you have to wait.

            http://camping.snowys.com.au/search?w=jetboil

I converted to jetboil for my hiking trips a few years ago. They are way, way, quicker than your average stove of any kind and use less fuel to get there. Cope well with wind too.

Mine is the Jetboil Sol (ti) Probably no longer available.

Anaconda and BCF sell them, however there are plenty of online retailers and ebay would be cheaper. I purchased mine at a show last year and got a bargain so if he can wait that is a good option. I have the jet boil flash (1L capacity) which is the first of the cheaper models that has push button ignition so more convenient.
The Jetboil Zip (0.8L capacity) is the cheapest at about $100 however you need matches to light it. If this isn't an issue it would be the best bet.

              Cheers Matt

Thanks guys. Flash would be the one I would lean towards. Might have to get one myself.

The ebay listings don't seem to include the fuel canister. Is that right? Or aren't they included in the when sold in the shops as well?

Correct amts. Fuel cannisters are extra.

I don't think its easy to post a gas cylinder anyway...

Edit: in case you aren't aware: The Jetboil cylinders (or similar) are single use. They can be removed for transport but when they are empty that's it. Get a new one.

Edit 2: I just found the receipt for my Sol ti. $167AU inc freight from US. (They weren't offered here at the time in mid 2011. If you wanted a small/light jetboil you had to import it)

That's correct the canisters are sold separate, last one I purchased was a primus brand. If you buy the smallest canister it actually fits inside the JetBoil so it's one neat package. The large canisters are good for bigger trips though.

And don't get the plunger kit, it's useless!! It lets half the coffee grindings through. The jetboil itself is the goods though.
