  • 60,000kms service in Alice Springs

I'm currently on the road and will need my 60,000km service when I get to Alice Springs in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know what the Toyota dealership is like and what I should or shouldn't look out for

I've never taken my car there personally but the missus takes hers there for every service. From her experiences and what other people have told me it's one to steer clear of. I'm sure they can follow the service 'requirements' but they seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to doing it and fail to check/notice anything that is not exactly specified on the schedule. Depends on what you value in a service I suppose. Only advantage I see is that the dealership is walking distance to town where most others are a $10 taxi fare

Stay the hell away from the Toyota dealer in Alice.
I got ripped off to the tune of close to $1400 to fix a brake line last trip up there.
Refused to pay and they refused to give car back. Stuck between a rock and a hard place had no choice but to pay up so i could continue my trip
A few locals i spoke with later laughed at me and said the are the biggest rip offs in Alice.
I would be looking for a local mechanic up there to do it if i were you

I would be looking at someone like ARB or similar.
Being only a 60,000 k service its only oil and filter. Most service places will try and get you to do other things while it is in but you will have to make that call

I was debating taking my car to Peter Kittles at least once, just to get Toyota one look at it under warranty (software updates etc) but I've heard no good stories.

I've chatted to Central Diesel Services (no affiliation!) https://www.facebook.com/Central-Die...9633852784626/ and they seemed fairly knowledgable. Mate has been servicing his 76 Series there and recommends them.

Diesel specialist, heaps of community / government work cars here are Prados, Hilux's, I'm hoping they have a clue about them! Bit of a lucky dip!

I take mine to the StJohn workshop (08) 8950 0600 and have been for the last 65,000km. They are the mob who service and build all of the ambulances in Central Australia and always do a good job.
Otherwise I've heard Country Diesel Maintenance (08) 8952 1712 are fairly good too, but I've never taken mine there.

I don't have any experience with mechanics in Alice but if you make it to Darwin then Darwin 4x4 are a good place to go.

I'm on my way to Darwin and have booked it in at the Toyota dealership next week. Would you recommend Darwin 4x4 rather than Toyota

Yeah man. Stay away from dealerships unless you need somethings covered under warranty
