  • Audio amplifier for 150 series

Has anyone added just an aftermarket amp to their existing sound system without changing the speakers or head unit?

How did it sound? What amp did you use?

I doubt you will find anyone who has. To get any real benefit you would want to replace your speakers too. I have been looking into this for a while now and figured out exactly what I want to do, now it's just to save up that sort of coin.

If you wanted to do this you could use any amp with a high level input, shouldn't be too hard to find one that suits. Then just put it inline with your speakers, easy.

What kind of speakers are you looking at upgrading? I've got a GX 2013 Facelift, and was thinking it may be worth a few $100 to just upgrade the speakers for better sound.

Especially the rear speakers, so you can use them at a camp site. Interested to see what others have/will do

        Hi mate,

I have fitted 600watt amp and 12" sub to my prado 150 wasn't to hard to do..

I used a 4 Channel RCA Hi Lo Audio Line Level Converter Adapter which I purchased on ebay can't remember how much but was fairly cheap.

I pulled the original head unit out and located the rear speaker wires to which I wired the left/right speakers.
To which the inverter converts the low power from the speakers to hi power allowing for the amplifier to be installed after all the cables were ran to the rear of the car. Power was easy as I have a fridge in the back so only had to run RCA'S along the drivers side sill to the amp.. sounds pretty good you can tune the amp and also use the settings on the head unit to control the bass and trebble as you normally would with any aftermarket head unit..

The inline inverter tucked up nicley into the dash behind the head unit, I also wired the accessories wire to the power off of my uhf wiring which is in the dash too..

Link below of the inverter mate hope this helps

        Cheers Dan...
